.. People forget, were too young, or were just not around yet to realize that in 1971', Casey Viator was the only bodybuilder in the world who could stand next to Arnold and Sergio .. I put him on the top of my list as the most under rated bodybuilder of all time

Not even close to being under-rated. He got his dues. He just wasn't that aesthetic, and faded away. And he was all AAU than during the time frame that you mentioned. So, gotta disagree with you there. At the big shows, he placed 5th at the 1980 IFBB NOC, won the 1980 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro, won the 1980 Gran Prix Louisiana Pro, Grand Prix Pennsylvania. And placed 13th at the 1980 Mr. O, 3rd at the 1982 Mr. O (5 places ahead of Jusup)
Now the truly under-rated was Jusup Wilkosz. He was 6th at the 1981 Mr. O, 10th at the 1982
Mr. O, 6th again at the 1983, and 3rd at the 1984 Mr. O, which was the beginning of the Haney reign.
Yet, no one really mentions the German with odd name who trained with Arnold Swarzenegger.

Strong mo-fo, but I thought Casey's physique was overrated... pancake chest, waist is too wide, high lats, back lacked width.

How could he reach that level of development without all the essential supplements of today like glutamine, Beta-alanine, arginine, Whey hydrolisate, BCAAs...?? :o
-
Agreed, he looked powerful and dense but not venue close to arnold or sergio

He did all he could with his structure.

Am I the only one who thinks he looked better as a teen?

hope this doesnt get taken out of context, for your sake :D

Since there's no actaul ratings, it's tough.
If I picked someone who always showed up in shape, looked great on stage and was a crowd favorite, yet didn't place as high as some would expect, I'd have to say Pavel Jablonicky.
-

No,I also think he looked better.
Lots of the pros looked better as amateurs for that matter.

Great choice G.A.,dude was always ripped, ready, and thick as a brick.

No,I also think he looked better.

Phil Heath never bettered his 2010 Arnold showing.
-
He looks great there Jeff.
-
Sammy Willis was unbelievable as a teenager and short class competitor in the early to mid-1970's. He won the AAU Teenage Mr. America, Mr. Mid-America, and Mr. Central America contests and earned top places in several other national competitions. He and another outstanding african american bodybuilder Willie Johnson were always in the mix at the national level. Both great bodybuilders with very little attention directed their way.

They were great but they were with Hoffman/AAU and that`s why the lack of coverage.
-
Thanks Wes. You are absolutely correct. I have always wondered how some of those AAU shows might have transpired minus the Hoffman "influence/guidance".

Tell me about it.......lots of great physiques got robbed in those old contests. :(

2005
-
He looks amazing there!!
-
I wanna say Lee Labrada, even though he did very well in competitions. I wish the judges had valued his kind of physique more. It may have helped prevent bb's slide into freakdom and michelin man bubble gut that began with Yates and continues unabated.
-
Bill Pearl. Dude was better than Arnold in 71 or 72.
Pics to back this up?
-
There aren't any, Arnold destroyed him in every way at that point.

I actually like Heath's earlier look, when he was literally "all arms". Muscle had that fresher look to it, I guess. Pic speaks for itself.
