Title: I Am A Feminist (And Guess What? So Are You!) AMA
Post by: Meta-physical on February 04, 2017, 01:05:28 PM
As a Gender Studies graduate, I am only too aware of the pervasiveness of male power which all women still experience in some way. Male privilege is so successful because it is able to present itself as natural and inevitable - but I'm here to tell you that women everywhere still face barriers that aren't in any way natural, and it is high-time that we, as confident, mentally-stable men of iron, start doing something about it!

I cannot help but succumb to lachrymosity when contemplating the fact that arguments so eloquently enunciated by Mary Wollstonecraft in 1792, and John Stuart Mill in 1869, are still struggling to be realised all across the world today. The first wave of the feminist movement should be regarded as one of our proudest achievements in history, but it doesn't, and shouldn't, stop there. The personal is political! All around us, women - particularly in developing countries - still face the most brutal forms of patriarchal power, and progress must be made. Women of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains. Who's with me?

Women have everything to lose.
They can't walk to high paying nonsense-government-job in Somalia. There aren't ones in Somalia. Neither there are in many other "developing countries" you mention women should rise in.
If they angered their men, they would starve to death.

So the gender roles in those places are natural.
Women do very little productive work even in developed countries. They are able to be independent just because net taxpayers (mostly men working in exporting industries) here bear the costs and provide them nonsense jobs.

Lord have mercy! Dunce alert! Someone put a dunce cap on the chauvinist pig. Gender roles in failed and fragile states are natural! Let's just leave them all to it then! Let's not bother with NGOs or International Development strategies to try and ameliorate the affects of debilitating global debt and rapid industrialisation in the third word. Let's not bother speaking out about the brutal cultural practices that many of our fair maidens are subjected to! Indeed, let's forget about fundamental values such as freedom, human rights and equality when our transnational corporations are taking advantage of cheap raw materials and wage-slavery in order to provide this asshole with his designer sneakers that were made by women without basic workers rights! It's fine with him, because women 'do very little productive work even in developed countries'! Never mind bothering to take two seconds to look at basic statistics that would contradict such an absurd statement! He just wants to 'grab them all by the pussy'!

I swear, if you were standing in front of me just now, you'd get a Fut Sao delivered straight to your brachial plexus.

I would bitch slap you but then you would probably cry, I would fuck your girl but then you would say she is exercising her sexuality, the problem with beta men like you is that you are so soft that its hard to find the desire to do anything to you, now get down on your knees and tell me not to hurt you.

OP what are your thoughts on the cause(s) of the gender-wage gap?

Personally, I believe it stems largely from women sacrificing their careers to raise their families, starting with the 3+ months of maternity leave they take per pregnancy, but I'm not very knowledgeable about the subject.

Unless it is leg day, right? because then you'd be too busy dragging 300lbs of dogshit across the floor.

A good question, young man. And you phrased it correctly in that it is a wage gap, as opposed to pay - in our country, at least. The difference is, for the most part, largely due to the reasons you stated. We need to make it easier for women to work in meaningful employment AND be able to have children, if they so wish. A socialist feminist would locate the roots of the oppression within capitalism itself, i.e. the nature of property relationships in class society. Karl Marx had argued that women's subordination came from the 'bourgeois family' which was the product of private property. Many would also highlight the unpaid domestic labour carried out by women - which contributed to a capitalist society by producing a workforce, but received no wages.

Second-wavers would object to the Marxist focus of class over gender, however. They would argue that the functions women fulfil within the private sphere - producing and raising children - stopped them from being able to play an active role in working life.

I hope this has been informative.

The wage gap means that women can't afford to hire someone to raise the child.  The patriarchy is using a woman's own child to trap her into a life of poverty and sexual servitude.

And you call yourself a feminist.  How dare you.

In Western countries, women have nothing to complain about.

I must say, 'Tapeworm' is a very apt name for you - as only a blithering cestode could have could have overlooked the part where I said "We need to make it easier for women to work in meaningful employment AND be able to have children, if they so wish." I, for one, will be only too happy to help with the traditionally gendered roles of housework, as well as take full advantage of male maternity leave. I hope you will do so too.

The world is your oyster, friend.
I was going to thank you for your kind words until I spotted the mocking way in which you edited my introduction. If you read my other posts you'll know that I am very much a ladies man.

I think feminism died the second that ginger guy put on an American flag as a hijab at the women's march, just kidding it was way earlier than that.

The majority don't think of feminism as a rights movement anymore and nobody wants to be a part of it

Absolutely not. I regularly hold massive sex parties with many of my third-wave female friends. You have to remember that feminism is a fragmented ideology - we each have different standpoints and interpretations. My feminist friends and I all advocate sexual assertiveness and intentionally indulge in gratuitous, vulgar sexual acts with one-another in order to push back against slut shaming and body shaming.
