U.S. immigration authorities arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants in at least a half-dozen states this week in a series of raids that marked the first large-scale enforcement of President Trump’s Jan. 25 order to crack down on the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally.
Officials said the raids targeted known criminals, but they also netted some immigrants without criminal records, an apparent departure from similar enforcement waves during the Obama administration. Last month, Trump substantially broadened the scope of who the Department of Homeland Security can target to include those with minor offenses or no convictions at all.
Trump has pledged to deport as many as 3 million undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
Immigration officials confirmed that agents this week raided homes and workplaces in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, the Los Angeles area, North Carolina and South Carolina, netting hundreds of people.

Even funnier are the Trump voters in California who voted to destroy their own businesses
Bonus round - there will be lots of jobs openings in CA for unemployed Trump voters across the country so put down the crack pipe and come to CA and you can now spend 12 hours a day picking lettuce

yep, that's what it will feel like to be great again

Just saw a story on the news. A lady here for 22 years, got caught with a fake SSN so they sent her back and now they're protesting? Fuck that. I believe Bush gave illegals a one time opportunity to register and after 22 years if she never did and was sporting a fake SSN she shouldn't just be deported but should be in jail

There are plenty of legal Mexicans, Blacks, and Whites that can do these jobs. These criminals weren't out in the fields picking lettuce. They were involved in more lucrative illegal activities.

Pretty obvious you didn't bother to read the link. Either that or you somehow know theses farmers businesses better than they do (which of course is a common occurrence on GB.com).
-
Good to see the law finally being enforced.

And this is why liberals will continue to lose ^^
The 'cheap lettuce' argument is the worst point ever. It's a birkenstocks nazi position.
The US is to blame for not enforcing it's own laws for decades and now the country needs to take its medicine. Everyone who's in gets to stay and be legal.
Then put up a wall with automated machine guns and, because we don't have to be mean about it, plenty of warning signs. The first group won't believe it but the rest sure will.
Come at me.

Mr. Trump’s immigration policies could transform California’s Central Valley, a stretch of lowlands that extends from Sacramento to Bakersfield. Approximately 70 percent of all farmworkers here are living in the United States illegally, according to researchers at University of California, Davis. The impact could reverberate throughout the valley’s precarious economy, where agriculture is by far the largest industry. With 6.5 million people living in the valley, the fields in this state bring in $35 billion a year and provide more of the nation’s food than any other state.
The consequences of a smaller immigrant work force would ripple not just through the orchards and dairies, but also to locally owned businesses, restaurants, schools and even seemingly unrelated industries, like the insurance market.
Mr. McClarty is not just concerned about his business, but also about his work force, he said. Many of them have worked for him year-round for more than a decade, making at least $11 an hour. After immigration officials audited his employee records a few years ago, he was forced to let go of dozens of employees.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/09/us/california-farmers-backed-trump-but-now-fear-losing-field-workers.html?_r=1 (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/09/us/california-farmers-backed-trump-but-now-fear-losing-field-workers.html?_r=1)
The supply of labor to the agricultural industry will decline causing wages and the cost of produce to increase. It will affect all farmers equally and therefore none of them will go out of business. in the end the consumer will pay more for produce. It's not the end of the world.

I assume all the unemployed Trump supporters are on their way to CA to snatch up these sweet migrant farm worker jobs
should the white Trump supporters who show up get those jobs first or should it just be first come first served?
-
Force people on welfare to work the farms or whatever jobs illegals were doing if nobody wants them
forced labor?
ok, I'll hear you out (I'm assume you've given this premise some thought)
do you have some more parameters or does this apply to everyone on welfare?
what if there are no farms nearby?
what other jobs should we force people to do?

maybe Trump's base doesn't eat a lot of lettuce or, say, Mexican avocados for that matter?

arrivederci mothafuckers , hopefully rent prices drop and frees up all the freeway traffic

everyone on welfare should have to work ...i work for my money and drug test at random times when they want to check me ,,,,
they should do the same for people on welfare ,(aka my money i pay in taxes they get free money) , they should be made to do something for the free ride of cash ,food and house they get payed for by me and all the other tax payers .
im not saying force them but if you want welfare this is what you got to do for it, point blank they all will want or look for better jobs and not want to stay on welfare imo....
-
Straw man what is your concern here, that food prices sky rocket? That these farms go out of business?
The whole idea of American capitalism is that if you dont fill a need someone else will do it better.
These farmers are little mom and pop shops, they are conglomerates. They aren't scrapping to get by, theyre making money at the expense of an illegal workforce. These workers are probably housed on farm property in sub par conditions, being taken advantage of on multiple levels.
Rambone is probably the authority here who can speak on this.
American citizenship isnt that hard to get. These workers could and can be here legally, which would be a good thing for them. Instead these farms cheat the system.
Theres always someone willing to work and if your company doesnt pay a reasonable wage it wont survive, that's the "American" way.

Tu Homes once told me that Mexicans only take the jobs that Americans don't want. Really dirty, undesirable work that a monkey could do like painting houses.
Told him I paint houses all the time.
I'm not sure who owned who.

not forced at all....
if you are proven able to work ( would need medical note to say otherwise)
then you WORK... or you don't get paid welfare....
nobody's forcing anyone...
want to get paid?... you FREAKIN work for it
dont want to work.... no free handouts.
if you are incapable of working.. disability, etc... then fine...
otherwise... no soup for you

What I am getting from this thread is that Grasping hates Trump (as in every other thread he posts in/starts) and that he supports illegal acts.

Most of these farms are actually large corporations that will have no problem surviving. They are exploiting the fact that these people are illegal to pay low wages to improve their profit margin. The reason only 30 percent of these farm workers are legal is because most who are legal can find a better job.
-
I don't know when enforcing our laws and deporting illegal aliens with criminal records became such a revolutionary concept.
This is a something than any country should do to protect it's citizens. If people don't like the laws then change the law. Until then shut the fuck up.
Also, I'm amused by this theory that people are spreading about how we desperately need these illegals and how it's going to destroy our economy to deport them.
Bull-Fucking-Shit!
-

The logic here is mind boggling. The United States has a population of 324 Million people and only illegal aliens can pick lettuce. Therefore, the price of a head of lettuce is going to go up to $15 and most farms will go bankrupt. ::)

Large corporate farms also get the lions share of the agriculture subsidies.
Apparently, these "raids" were already planned out before Trump it's what is actually happening to the law-breakers that seems to have changed.
Again, people freaking out about enforcing the laws and holding people accountable and saying it's a terrible thing just shows you how bad things have gotten.
And this doesn't just touch the ag-corps and low wage stuff....you hear and see those tech companies crying a river and fighting tooth and nail against similar things? They need poorly trained H1-B1 visa flows from foreign countries because they need the cheapest labor possible.
All comes down to to putting U.S. citizens out of work and lowering wages across the board.
Don't be fooled.

A head of lettuce is 99 cents. Even if the price triples, who cares? It ain't much of a price to pay.

This is 100% wrong. Vegetable farms in this country getting destroyed by Mexican imports. No one is being exploited. They are all paid minimum wage at the minimum. The H2A program is a joke and almost impossible to implement. There's illegals working in farming because 1. American workers refuse to do that kind of work. 2. There's no suitable immigration program in place to bring groups of these people here legally/seasonally to do these kind of jobs.
-
There's is also a huge disconnect between grocery store prices and the price being paid to the farmer. I've watched our product fluctuate from $6-$20 a box and the supermarkets charge the same price per lb. They have very little incentive to lower the price.

Stop the Mexican imports.
And bullshit there is not suitable immigration programs in place. The real fact is the Mexicans come from a third world country with no respect for the law and want the same system to apply to them here. As much as liberals would like to believe laws are just suggestions, the rest of America wants the laws upheld and enforced

I wish they would or at least regulate them. They're washing drug money and dumping the vegetable on our markets for extremely low prices. All this does is put our farmers out of business and makes us more reliant on another country for food. Do we want to rely on China making everything and Mexico growing all of our food? I think that's a bad spot to be in. I'm talking about the immigration program that allows them to come here and work. It's full of bureaucratic red tape. With the H2A program, you have to pay for their travel here, pay for their housing, pay for 3 meals a day, and pay them an "adverse effect wage" which is a few bucks more then minimum wage. Who the fuck would want to do that? That's not practical for business and makes us even less competitive.

Trump should re-write both the H2A and H1B visa programs. Cut through the red tape and globalization is nothing more than the market searching out cheap labor.
The Dems opposing the immigration ban is about controlling future votes, not quality of life. Do you think Hollywood starlets give two shits about the Mexican landscaping their yard? Hell no, politics under obama became win at all cost, by any means necessary, and Dems would rather "win" even if it means the US becomes a third world shithole

I agree a 100%. I think Trump wants to get back to using common sense in this country. We desperately need it. Last year the FDA rolled out a new procedure for an increase in testing of cucumber and hot peppers for salmonella. They came to our facility and tested. We held the product and waited for the results. If we ship the product and the results are positive, we have to do a recall which is bad for business. A simple salmonella test can be done in 48-72 hours. Our great government took 14 days before we were notified of the results. After 14 days, cucumbers are basically moldy mush. We had to dump over 100k worth of product. The lab actually got the results back in 8 days, but they probably sat on some dumb federal employees desk for almost another week before we got them. And some people want more government in their lives? It's crazy.

That's how economics works. If nobody wants to do a job they have to pay more. That's why garbage men are paid well. What makes you think people picking fruit should only be paid minimum wage. The labor market is what determines wages. The fact that there are illegal aliens mean the farmers don't have to pay any more than minimum wage and that's why only 30 percent of their workers are legal.
My argument is with justifying illegal immigration so farmers don't have to pay more for field workers. especially considering many of these farms are actually large corporations.
-

So CA imports 12,000,000 illegal immigrants to harvest crops. Then the water runs out and the cost for Ag becomes so high farming drops by 80% and moves to another state. When the beaners follow the lettuce to Oregon, Texas, Whoknows, who pays the tab then?
This is about votes, nothing more.
Monsanto cares more about Mexicans than the Democrat Party

That's really not how it works. Garbage men aren't paid well. Neither are janitors, landscape workers, dishwashers, farm workers because they are unskilled laborers. It's not a simple answer of paying more. That's a total fallacy. It's the physical demands of the job that keeps people away. Most farmworkers in the field make 10-12 an hour. I could double that and I'm not going to have Americans lining up the consistent 6-7 days a week i need them in the field working. Just isn't going to happen. Many have tried and failed miserably. Just because big farms are "large corporations" doesn't mean their immune from losing money. Huge sums of money at that. The answer is a reasonable guest worker plan that can bring the people in legally to perform these jobs that Americans are never going to do again. Unless you want to think out of the box and make prisoners do it or turn off welfare and think they're going to come out and work.

My only question really is about certain jobs being done.
Rumor has it that a lot of gardeners and handyman types have disappeared.
If all of them are gone, there are some jobs that people can take on if they want to stop the unemployment rate.

Read somewhere today that at least 70-90% of these illegals , depending which sources you want to cite, are convicted felons. Why aren't they thrown out of the fucking country once convicted?? The courts have them RIGHT THERE when passing sentencing or judgement. Why not 'You're guilty and illegal, now fuck off'?
They convict these people then let them go? ???
