I'd have to go with NFL backs
those dudes are strong, fast, agile, and fit
basketball players are second but they don't need to have so much strength and power like NFL backs, but they certainly are fitter
-
nfl players in general
-
Not to be captain obvious but IFBB pros. 8)

this guy. ;D

yep, they got lightening fast reflexes, incredible agility and coordination, and conditioning for miles, except when they have to climb a flight of stairs and get winded after 4 steps lol
-
Im not sure ive seen better all around athletes than Jordan or Lebron, Jordan in particular.Cat like reflexes, 48inch vertical, immense full court and half court speed, superb lateral speed, explosive from just a standstill or hop step,a cardio engine that just didnt stop, lightning first step, huge hands etc.
-
Why all these best this and that threads ???
-
Best endurance I'd have to say tennis. Anyone who's never played will realize how gassed they are after 5 minutes.

All round the best i would think it is Gymnasts
Strength
power
Coordination
Balance
Fitness
Flexibility
Agility
-
Obvious answer would be a decathlete...
NFL and basketball would fall flat against another sportsman who also trains for endurance like a boxer

yeah, decathlete is probably the best all around athlete
-
rugby
-
NFL players would have heart attacks if they had to run for 1 km continuously.
Very bad.
Human male is built for running.
-
Boxers.
They have to have strength, speed, agility and fitness to last 12 rounds.

Bodybuilders obviously

nfl players in general
Lol!!!!!!!!!! Every heard of rugby??!!! Or soccer??!!! Or cyclists (tour the france)?!!

The most athletic are elite olympic weightlifters, as moving under the bar in the snatch is the fastest hip movement in sports, and the clean develops the most hip and leg power in all of sports. They have very high vertical jumps and fast sprints due to immense power to weight ratio. These attributes can be translated into other sports by practicing to develop the specific skills. Many athletes from other sports utilize power cleans in training etc to increase athleticism.
Yes very good choice
Still say all round ability elite gymnasts can't be beat
-
Decathletes, thread end...

Endurance & cardiovascular wise yes.
Don't think all there all round abilities get near matching Gymnasts

Gymnasts are good but you have to be a midget.
-
The decathlon is such a niche sport, I doubt many prime genetic specimens go for that over far more lucrative options
In the US, the best athletes are probably found in the NFL ..the combination of size, speed & strength some of these players have is amazing. In other countries, you'll probably find them on thesoccer field
-
Gymnasts are good but you have to be a midget.
And ??
i don't see any giants matching their all round abilities.
The question is who are the best athletes - Not the biggest.
-
STUID BITCH ASS FUCKING QUESTION.
Nfl players are god at football. Hockeyplayers are good at hockey. Basketballplayers are good at basket.
Wtf is this question????!!!! Must be some stupid as getbgger...how old are u? If your 25 its ok to ask something like this and then be corrected by older more mature clever men!

.surely the greatest athlete must be American , also playing an American sport?

The best argument I've ever herd was a baseball player. Take a baseball player and put him on a basketball court. Can he dribble and shoot a basket? yes. Put him on a football field. can he catch and throw a football? yes. Put any athlete in the batters box against a 100mph fastball. can they hit it?no
Nobody can argue the hardest thing to do in sports is to hit a baseball.

rugby

Well then you're implying it's the shortest.

x2. It requires everything.

Obviously you never heard of Michael Jordan.
How about Race Car driving. Sounds easy right? Like to see the average person take 200 MPH corners and not crash
-
Well then you're implying it's the shortest.
Not at all - it was you how brought in the element of height.
Again it's about the best all round athletes.
-
Probably football and rugby. We have DT from the Eagles that started with us last week for off season training. 6'4 1/2 318 with a 35" vert means you're explosive as hell.
-
the only thing nfl football players don't have is stamina/endurance
and yep hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports, but.... basedull players have near zero stamina/endurance
-
Best endurance I'd have to say tennis. Anyone who's never played will realize how gassed they are after 5 minutes.
So wrong. You've clearly never played basketball.
It takes me 1 hour just to get warmed up and feeling good in tennis.
I can play soccer or tennis or anything for hours straight and basketball can exhaust my anus in 1 minute.
It's not even close.
I played tennis 2 weeks ago for 1.5 hours against my workmate who isn't that fit and has a bit of a gut and my heart rate probably stayed below 80 the whole time, even though I was running around chasing his shitty returns on the court next to us as it was the first time he ever played tennis. Btw, this was right after work + I was dehydrated + he was fine afterwards + he didn't get DOMS the next day...
Tennis is less tiring than "power walking". Let's see Federer (try) "power walk" for 5 hours straight..

That is more of a skill, akin to a dart player, snooker player, ten pin bowler etc etc.... You can do this while out of shape, its reactions and hand eye coordination.
To argue its harder to hit a ball than run 100m under 10 sec, or clean and jerk 100's of kg is ridiculous

good point
imo sucker players go down on the totem pole coz they don't use their fucking hands
don't know much bout rugby since i come from the jew s of a, but i'd say those dudes are decent athletes

You could argue its harder to control a ball with your foot instead of your hands..
Rugby league players play with higher tempo than union...

a standard test for that is the Cooper 12 minute run
I'd bet most nfsmell players couldn't even cover a mile in a half in 12 minutes lol

Why would they test for something that would translate to ZERO on a football field? You're confusing football with track athletes.
Who gives a shit if they could run a mile? lmao

So why is his statement regarding them having lower levels of stamina so ridiculous.... We are talking all round athletes not just powerful bursts, as you said running miles wouldn't translate at all on an American football pitch
-

cooch is a dipshit
get this, he actually thinks that turd woods is an athlete

You're right. What was I thinking. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I should really consider another line work. But I'm gong to take your advice and see if my 300 + lb lineman can run a mile In under 12min.
-

A 12 minute mile is a jog, he wouldn't be much of an athlete if he couldn't do that
-
A 12 minute mile is a jog, he wouldn't be much of an athlete if he couldn't do that
I didn't know that we defined an a athlete as someone that could do a 12 min jog. Besides, the test is to run as far as possible in 12min.
-
Were defining an athlete as an all rounder, power, speed and endurance...
-
Soviet athletes are(were) superior.
-

THIS
and don't forget coordination, balance, agility and cat-like reflexes 8)

What about hand-eye coordination, proprioception, reaction, etc.

this!!! Football players don't run for more than 10 seconds at a time....gtfo with NFL players....soccer players are 10x more athletic

So? Soccer players walk half the time they're out there, and fall down if somebody breathes on them.

hahahahha
basketball players are.more fit than sucker players FACT

some not all...on average look up how many kilometers a soccer player runs during a game vs a football player...case closed
-
this!!! Football players don't run for more than 10 seconds at a time....gtfo with NFL players....soccer players are 10x more athletic
It depends on the position. Quite a few skills positions come from a track background. You're saying football as a whole can't do what you're asking. I don't expect a football player to run a marathon nor do I expect a marathon runner to do a 300 yard shuttle on his 3rd run in under a min. You're giving your interpretation of what YOU think an athlete should be.

Played D1 Basketball...once an athlete always an athlete
-
To set the record straight. I'd much rather discuss topics like this rather than politics
-
Speaking of athletes, not sure how many NFL'ers have the athletic ability of Russell Westbrook. That fucker can jump like no one's business.
-
Id still say a decathlete or a middleweight boxer fit the bill for all round athlete...
Power, speed, endurance...incase of boxer hand eye coordination and reactions too
