Saw him at the Olympia after party way back at haneys last win in LA. is that right? At venice golds. The same party where strydom is being videoed posing. They had a tent the back parking lot serving free food. Good ol days. Phil was there. Pretty sure he did not compete in that Olympia.

I was there also. Was a friend of Phil at the time, he didn't compete at the O. But had won the Chicago Pro a few months before the O.

I worked for George Turner in 1987-88 when Phil trained there.

Fantastic interview. I listen to about three quarters of it and will listen later but what a great snippet of history.

He beat Gary Strydom in Chicago.

Yes! Brought back a lot of memories.

Cool, thanks John!
Try and get Rory... that's one guy with enough enigma surrounding him to make a very interesting interview.

Phil won a lot more titles than Jimmy Canyon - overall at the NPC USA, overall at the NPC Nationals and won his first pro show.

After the '88 Olympia? I was there watching Gary Strydom doing a photo shoot for Flex and met Lee Haney as well. I remember seeing Phil Williams training that day.

I only trained at Gold's occasionally, although I loved that place. I remember it was 8 bucks to train for a day.
I became friends with Eddie Giuliani and he let me train at World for free, so I was there most of the time... :)

That's a good idea, he would be a good one.

His head and neck are quite wide and thick compared to the average bodybuilder today
