Have you switched from a car to suv/crossover?

Are the Altima, Accord, Fusion, and Sentra not considered midsize? I think this shows more than anything that we Americans love full size pickups...top 3 spots.

Pickups have always had the top three spots, so nothings changed there.  Midsize cars used to have spots four, five and six with the usual players Camry, Accord, and Altima.  The fact that the Rogue, CR-V, and RAV4 are up to number 4, 5, and 8 is significant. Eleven of the top 25 sellers are SUVs and manufacturers are noticing.

The Sentra is actually a compact.  But you could make the point that the Civic has grow so big it's actually larger that the 1994 Accord.

Saturday I traded my '15 BMW 435i hard drop top for a loaded '17 BMW X3. I don't miss the car one bit. I just ordered some Vertini wheels for it with some of the cash back I received on the deal.

I prefer to sit up higher, unless it's a sports car. Had a CRV which I liked and now drive a Silverado. White people love trucks.

This is the reason most people prefer SUVs.  They give a more commanding view of the road.

Yes but most SUVs aren't real SUVs. Just unibody cars with a SUV body stick on.  Marketing trick to trick small dicked guys.

Most people don't care if an SUV's body on frame or unibody.  It's not like Heather's taking her CR-V off-roading in Moab.  Of the top 20 SUV/Crossover sales, the Wrangler and 4Runner are the only two that are body on frame.

The CR-V gets 28 city / 34 highway.  That's respectable enough for people to keep buying them even when gas prices go up.

Most of the body on frame SUV's are based on pickup trucks.  If a company doesn't have a pickup, it doesn't make any sense to develop a body on frame SUV.

This is the full list of all body on frame SUV's and their pickup counterpart.  Only three aren't based on a pickup.
Jeep Wrangler/NA
Toyota 4Runner/Tacoma
Chevrolet Tahoe/Silverado
Chevrolet Suburban/Silverado
GMC Yukon/Sierra
Ford Expedition/F150
GMC Yukon XL/Sierra
Lexus GX460/Tundra
Cadillac Escalade/Sierra
Infiniti QX80/Titan
Nissan Armada/Titan
Toyota Sequoia/Tundra
Lincoln Navigator/F150
Land Rover LR4 */NA
Lexus LX570/Tundra
Mercedes-Benz G-Class/NA
Toyota Land Cruiser/Tundra

Also, If you can make a unibody SUV as fine as the Mercedes GLS or Range Rover, why do you need body on frame?

This. My friend is a huge VW/Audi fanboy. He is always getting raped at the dealership.

The problem for Volkswagen is enough people have owned them to know they they will be paying a fortune to the dealers in maintenance costs.  Volkswagen's sales in the US are abysmal and the Passat was supposed to change that , but ended up failing miserably.  Nobody wanted to trade in a reliable Camry or Accord for a VW headache.  VW seems to be clueless how deeply ingrained their reputation is in the American psyche.  The VW Atlas pictured below is their next attempt at winning the American market.  It's doubtful anybody will anybody be trading in their Highlander, Pilot, or Grand Cherokee in for this.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas

An Accord and a pickup have two completely different purposes.  The Accord is reliable, fuel efficient transportation to get you back and forth from work.  The pickup can tow the boat to the lake or a trailer when moving or working on the house.  America wants both and will often have one of each.

Here's where the SUV comes in, because it can tow the boat or the trailer like a small truck and can haul cargo, but it gets good enough mileage that it can be used as a daily commuter car to work.

Yes. Being in such a small space reminds me of being surrounded by amniotic fluid in the womb--provides a sense of security, comfort and safety.

Have you driven this car on the freeway at over 60 miles an hour?

No, I do not drive on the highway. I prefer side streets. Im slightly afraid to drive on the highways.

I was talking to a guy from South America. He said where he grew up many of the roads weren't paved.  All the vehicles were old cars. He said when he came to New Jersey he was shocked how many 4 wheel drive vehicles there were everywhere. He asked, "Are there any dirt roads in NJ?"

Another point is that there are so many giant pick up truck owners  that never have a reason to haul anything. They just like the macho image it gives them.  Kind of like a hipster with beard.

Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, and Subarus are some of the most popular vehicles here in the Rockies (Colorado & Utah). Heck, I just traded my Acura in for a new Cherokee Trailhawk a month and a half ago.

If your SUV/CrossOver can't do none of these, then you own a car, so shut the fuck up.....

Most people are unwilling to spend more money on a Sierra for what they view as being the same truck as the Silverado.  Therefore, the Silverado has always outsold the Sierra.

The Subaru Forrester starts at $22K vs $49K for a GMC Yukon.

#54   Chevrolet Tahoe   13,541
#100    GMC Yukon   6,787
