Title: why do so many think competing in bodybuilding is a worthwhile goal?
Post by: broken dreams on April 19, 2017, 12:58:40 AM
i read it so many times on the internet: "what's the point of all that gear when not competing" blablabla this and that "competing"

"getting ready to step on stage in may" blablabla

etc

all this time they pretend that this magical "competing" is a holy mission

when in reality the average "competitor" is just a skinny loser in a thong and doesnt come nearly close to the top pros who are the only men worth watching in thongs

what's even more pathetic is that some people think that working out is something special like winnig a nobel prize or finding a cure for cancer

i think competing in bodybuilding is a beautiful thing and i think everybody should give it a try

its better to try and fail than not try at all.

why even try when you are nowhere near pro size ???

would you compete in powerlifting just to bench 315?

most people competing in anything do that on amateur level.

Ever wondered there are guys that go compete for the ride and not for the finishing line result?

Curious, why did you join a bodybuilding forum if you feel competing has no value to it. You should have joined a knitting forum. Then the sweater you crocheted would have value.

I competed a few times but the feeling like a Zombie on no food while working a full time job was enough.

But if you can diet yourself down and stick to it for weeks on end feeling like that, while still training hard, anything else in life is fucking easy.

Competitions separate the men from the boys.  You do not know how good you are as a bodybuilder if you have never competed.

Not competing, however, allows some to maintain their illusions that they are much better than they are.  See the Big Sean thread, for example.

Competitions separate the men from the boys.

Based on what I've read, it doesn't separate, but quite the opposite.

funny I was just thinking this morning if I was a pro bodybuilder, like on the road travelling to a "contest", part of me would feel pretty stupid.

Saying that I plan on competing in bodybuilding for the first time in October. I've won the national powerlifting tons of times, finished top 5 in national strongman so want to prove to myself I'm up at the top in all strength/physique related 'sports'. Will I enjoy dancing on stage in front of hundreds of cooing and cheering men? No. Will I enjoy wearing a thong? No. Will I enjoy dieting and being in the presence of competitive bodybuilding homo wankers? No. But getting one over on these fags with their instagram and designer training clothes, who compare their training and eating to 'war' and some sort of amazing achievement will make it all worth it.

I can understand someone wanting to maybe compete at a local show for fun, just to have the experience.  Doing it seriously though, I don't understand.  The money is made in the supplements, youtube channels, instagram etc, and you only have to be somewhat lean with some size to get into that side of things.  Keeping your health in mind, there is no reason ever to be a serious bodybuilder.

When are you starting your prep for October?

It's 25th October so I will begin prep 16weeks beforehand. As I've stated before I'm waiting on a hernia operation and if this comes up while I'm prepping then ill put off competing until next April which is the next time we have a show here after October

Different people different motivations.
I know some guys like to compete because it makes the feel like a superhero; others simply like the feeling of being admired/looked at, etc.
Some may do it for validation and some may feel their existence in the bodybuolding scene is not completely justified until the compete at least once...

I saw a small guy set a world record back  (1980) in the 123 lb class benching 315  ;)

Here's the deal:

1. EVERY pro competed as an amateur when they were smaller and less impressive looking.

2. NOBODY knows for sure how great a bodybuilder you'll be, until you compete on stage.

3. Competing in ANY sport should never start with going pro.
While most little leaguers dream of being in the majors, they play for the love of the game.

4. I returned to bodybuilding contests in the 1990's after being hardcore in the 1980's.
Then, I only did state/regional NPC shows without drugs or the need to go pro.

I used the contest date and atmosphere to help push me to be a better bodybuilder.
Dieting isn't fun, but I refused to get caught up in the extreme prep regimes many use.

5. Today, I enjoy watching a few state/regional shows and doing my thing in the gym.

The real  success secret is to do what's in your own best interest with bodybuilding.

stop rambling Howard....

I have solid genetics and I enjoy competition so i figured why not compete? for a few years of my life (different chapter) i want to compete against the best in my class (NPC classic bodybuilding tall class) id like to earn my pro card within 3 years. am i going to hawk supplements or online training? not at all. as a kid my brother and i both wanted to pros in sports like every other kid. he came real close in track and field.

id like to get that pro title no matter how watered down it may be.

"in my early 30s I became a pro bodybuilder in men's classic and competed against some top notch talent"
