Many sources of this story but I chose Newsmax since I know it's a favorite of our right wing posters
Since October, about 89,000 workers in general merchandise stores have lost their jobs, which is more than the number of people employed in the entire U.S. coal industry, the New York Times reported.
WTF - I had no idea there were so few people working in the coal industry
Trump talked so much about the coal industry I assumed there were actually a lot of coal workers
Well, I guess there will be a lot more coal worker very soon.

Sorry 240, Hillary's job application to K-Mart was turned down.
Do you need a coloring book? Play-doh? Apple juice to sip in your safe space?

And Amazon will kill all small retailers on the internet. They are doing to WalMart what Wal Mart did to mom and pops in the 90s.
The future will be dollar stores, 7-11s and Amazon trucks and drones. ....
-
I guess I'd better liquidate my Macy's stock ASAP.

I think the "smallest" retailers will actually stay in business by giving superior service and having more personal approach, but big box retailers are definitely going to be outdone by Amazon soon enough.

Not when your cost is more than what they sell it for. Doesn't matter how good your service is if you have no margin.
Manufacturers and distributors flocking to them right now just like they did to Walmart. Then 5-10 years down the line they start turning the screws on them and control both the buy and sell side of the product.

The newest shopping "malls" are like little villages with no "big box" anchor stores. Bridgeport Village and West Linn Central Village are close to home.
Shopping centers such as these are coming about because there are no HVAC costs that indoor malls have in maintaining the common areas. Many Early shopping centers were open air.
-
Its not really a job loss because its shifting to online retail. Amazon is opening a warehouse in Spartanburg and is hiring over 2000 workers for it. 9-11.75 an hour. Pretty good job for someone with little job skills.
