nice to see michael bisping taking the co lead
-
Not impressed with the guy playing Lenny. Gone well over the top with the accent and just sounds like a retard but Bisping as Roy Shaw might be alright.

Well, Lenny did have a distinct look and size, don't know any current actor that could do Lenny justice imo.

Well Craig Fairbrass was Lenny's actual choice and he trained with Lenny and got a good mention in Lenny's book. I thought he could pull it off if anyone....

True, he would be good, they were the same height as well.

He was great playing Pat Tate in Rise of the foot soldier. Probably the best thing about the film for me.

Yeah he's actually a very rare thing, an actor over six foot!
-
Yep Lenmy really wanted Fairbrass, shame that didn't happen.
This guy hasn't got the size for Lenny, facially not too bad for a young version.
The accent and body language hmm, it's like Jack sparrow trying to do an impression of phil mitchell

Would rather see Big Lenny!

Bloke playing Lenny looks like an absolute twat gannin aboot with that stupid fucking look on his face trying to look intimidating but just looks like a stupid cu nt who would have that pathetic look smacked off his face in any pub he went in.
Very bad choice of actor, film ruined.
-
Maybe the film will be good itself, but yea this is a major drawback straight away, main character being unlikeable. It's like the director or actor didn't even watch one interview or movie with Lenny in.

This was a great pick. I'll hold my opinion on the movie though, as it's a hard part to cast, especially now, with actors builds being the way they are. Thinking about, you'd really need to go back a couple a couple of decades to find guys that could've pulled it off well.

Wasn't McLean scared to fight Bronson?
There were a few fights that nearly happened that would have been very interesting but didn't for one reason or another. Bronson was released from prison and went straight on the unlicensed circuit were he had a few fights including one against a rabid dog, or so he claims! The top name at the time was Mclean and he says he wanted to fight him but he only lasted 69 days at liberty before he was back in prison.
I wonder if the film will be any more truthful than Lenny's book? In it he claims to have had over 3000 fights and never lost one but he lost at least six in the ring including getting knocked spark out by a bloke called Cliff Fields twice.
-
It's years since I read it, I always wanted a film coz it literally unfolded like a movie as I was reading it, a very entertaining book. If I remember rightly he claims never to have lost a fight on the cobbles, not in the ring...

Not much of a fight fan now-a-days .... especially when it coms to fighters/fights outside of the USA, but you GB GetBiggers got my curiosity up ...so I just ordered THE GUV'NOR for my Kindle from AMAZON.
Only $5.99 and it arrives in about 45 seconds!
Plus some of Lenny's fights appear to be on YouTube!
Thanks!!!
Sorry to admit that I knew nothing about him before reading this post.
-
he lost two fights in glasgow
No he didn't, Just cos your Scottish mate in the pub told you that doesn't make it so.
-
Urban myth cockney crap with shitty acting.
-
Wil not see this shit

They got the wrong men for the Rettendon murders
Not watched the Lenny film

Bernard omahoney implied the rettendon murders were the Dutch dealers covering their tracks

Don't take to much notice of what he says.
Drug / Police involvement very likely.

Lenny Mclean was a very intimidating man IRL.
Not 191 either as I'm sure he was taller than me, or seemed taller than me anyway.
He was also a nasty bullying cnut and in general people were happy when he died, especially after he murdered that black boy at the club (Equinox?) in Leicester Sq.

Did you know him.?
Opinions vary
Always found don't step on his toes & he wouldn't step on yours.
-
No, I'd just see him visit the gym sometimes all dressed up like an old school face. I'd have pissed my pants at the time if he'd even noticed me as I was just a teenager.
The story of how the black kid got killed is pretty bad and was widely discussed. I think his cancer came out pretty soon after that.
-
This McLean film is awful, straight dreck. Would not even recommend on a "So bad it's good" basis. Horrid acting, and a very shitty Guy Ritchiesque style of directing and dialog. Straight to video would be too good for it, it should be straight to garbage can.
.
( All five parts played in sequence - www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBdB5B_xKYM&list=PLE82D84D31405AE4F ).
The above was quite kind to him in the parts he was in, and is a far better watch.

I always suspected that...

Essex Boys were killed by a very HEAVY HEAVY firm they tried double crossing. I'm not going to say who as I may be stupid, well I am stupid but not THAT stupid.

I only knew Lenny vaguely personally as when I visited
As he trained at the old crystal palace gym sometimes
Though a lot of the GB powerlifters knew him well.
Also had a couple of lads work who had worked with Lenny.

Yes best not to say much.
