I think it reeks of disaster, but... :P
I like Elba, but he is the wrong guy for this.
Also, their approach is pretty stupid. It is like it is being made for only those who have read the books.
Not exactly the smartest way to do it.
Anyway, here is the teaser.
The Dark Tower Teaser
The Dark Tower is an upcoming 2017 American western science fantasy action horror film directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel, loosely based on the series of novels of the same name by Stephen King, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. The film has been stated to be not a typical adaptation, but more of a new take on the series – a combination of the first novel ("The Gunslinger") and the third ("The Waste Lands"), while also incorporating significant story points from the (chronologically-speaking) book 4.5 ("The Wind Through the Keyhole").
Additionally, King has tweeted a photo of the Horn of Eld with the caption "Last Time Around", which is related to a scene from the end of the final book ("The Dark Tower"), and Arcel said that fans will know the movie is a sequel to the events of the book series. The film is set to be released on August 4, 2017 in 3D and 2D by Columbia Pictures.

I hate to say it, but I agree. I didn't have any problem with Idris Elba in the title role and I was prepared for some major changes from the book, but in the trailer Jake is actually convincing Roland to find the tower. I don't think the movie is skewing towards fans at all. FWIW, I never thought this series was filmable, but it seems like people who aren't familiar with the books think it looks more promising.

I love the dark Tower but I'm not watching this shit.
Casting Elba for that role is retarded. More Hollywood bullshit, hope they don't gross shit

Yeh, or Johnny Falcon after eating 2 pounds of black beans

There was a time when it was going to be a series on HBO like Game of Thrones.
Ron Howard and Brian Grazer were trying to get it done.
With all the books, I think it would work better as an adult television series on cable.

I refuse to watch anything with Matthew McConaughey in it,as well as Chris Rock,Martin Lawrence, and Owen Wilson...............the y all make me sick

One trailer and some pics. That's it.
Is it any wonder Sony has been trying to sell Columbia Pictures for years.

Yes, will Hollywood ever get the message? No one is interested in this social engineered garbage...
-
I don't know man, but I prefer a white towel (no homo)

Although I like Elba as an actor, I too have to agree.
-
Yeah, the cast is terrible on just about every level.
I like Elba, but he could've turned down the role.
It is okay to say no. He should know better.
Clint Eastwood's son could've done this... and he would've cost less.

It did horribly on rotten tomatoes and Ebert only gave it 1.5 out of 4 stars.
I was going to go see it tonight, but decided to pass once I read the horrible reviews.

Sometimes a movie does bad on rotten tomatoes, and you find out that it was good (to you).

I'm pretty sure Roger Ebert is dead. ???

ha, my fault!
But, yeah, it didn't do well across the board.
Ill wait until it comes out on DVD.

Agreed. However, if I have suspicions about a movie, I will just wait until it comes out on DVD.
Going to the movies sucks these days. All these kids making noises, etc. I have to REALLY want to see a movie in order to go to a theater.
-
I agree.
It has to be something I really want to see. Something that I have been waiting for.
This thing had problems right from the start. That lessens the desire to go see it.
IT does look promising.

Going to go see it later today. 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fear for my health.
