One of the stranger media lawsuits I can remember was when "Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane got sued by a hockey player named Tony Twist because Mcfarlane had named a mob character in the comic books after Twist. Twist was awarded $15 million in damages because the jury found that McFarlane had profited from using Twist's image. This always seemed like a bizarre outcome and a bizarrely high verdict to me (it was eventually settled out of court for $5 million), but just read something that makes that verdict somewhat ironic. Prior to being sued by Twist, McFarlane sued one of his own employees who shared the name of Spawn's lead character. The guy wrote an autobiography claiming he was the inspiration for the character and McFarlane sued him for unfair competition, breach of fiduciary duty, false endorsement, false advertising and trademark and copyright infringement. :P

Hi indie-lad

Interesting but I would have handled it differently.
Put everyone down a well for a week and then throw in a rope. Whoever climbs out is the winner.

How about the individual suing the cigarette company because she got cancer!?
Or the lady who sued McDonald's because the coffee was too hot when she spilt it on her lap?
Or the two individuals who ram amuck throughout the grocery store threatened the customers and was stopped and held by Keith (OnlyMe) until the cops showed up. Those two ended up suing the grocery chain and got $100,000+ each.
And Keith only got a donut that someone paid for.
There are thousands of ways to get rich if you want to hire a decent lawyer but apparently only one way if you want a jelly do-nut!

The last thing that dude needed was another doughnut! ;D

I thought he drew the best Spider-Man comics back in the day.

Or the lady who sued McDonald's because the coffee was too hot when she spilt it on her lap?
So, the backstory on the mcdonalds case is interesting and a little more complicated. Mcdonalds had been serving their coffee at temperatures that had been burning customers for awhile and it was significantly hotter than other restaurants. They had also been having issues with their lid which was considered defective. The lady ended up needing $15,000 worth of skin grafts. The lady had actually only sued for the cost of her medical bills but mcdonalds had been found to be so grossly negligent that they ended up losing by much more.

^^^^^^^^ This!!! I saw a documentary on this and it was really eye opening how
Negligent McDonald's was. I remember it being reported as a bullshit lawsuits and I believed it.

OK, thanks for that McDonald's info. I will now go back to my Egg McMuffin.
Actually I think that the best thing on their menu is the SouthWest Salad, but I prefer the Protein Burgers at In n Out more so than any other fast food place.
Bu Jack's Sour-Dough-Burger is also pretty damn good on rare occasions.

Watch the documentary "Hot Coffee".
It is very informative.
