I have been limiting my calories, eating three normal size meals a day instead of the usual 5-6 meals that bodybuilders eat. I only weigh 150 at 5'9" and I think my body composition is improving. I have held onto the muscle I had at 175 and even added a little. My strength has actually increased as well (I pulled a 2.5X bodyweight Deadlift, 375). I'm sure most of the responses I get will be "monster bodyweight" or something similar, but I just thought I would put this possibility out there for everyone to consider. It is possible to get stronger, look good, AND BE HEALTHY.

I felt terrible while bulking, and looked terrible, too. At a bodyweight approaching 180 pounds, I was just too heavy. Lighter does feel better.

I admit I am not that big. And I was only 180 with a ton of food and water in my stomach :-[ But later I bulked up to a fairly lean 174 with abs.

--In a "bulking phase" don't get too heavy...just go up to where your bf is around 12-13%...that should be just fine...

180 lbs is "crackhead skinny" at 5'9" so I can't imagine you at 150. Are you on some crystal meth right now? If so be careful not to leave any friends in the trunk of your car, set it on fire and run accross state lines to get a pedicure. Just a suggestion.

Actually I weigh 160-plus, with abs. I don't want to get too big because I also like distance running. I did a half-marathon length run last summer and I would like to work my way up to marathon length. I am 5-9 1/2.

I tend to agree with SS. I bulked to 235 and was miserable. My joints were sore....knees and ankles. I tey to stay at 210 now and fell much better. I never really enjoyed the bloated look I had. Unless you are training to compete, what is the point of bulking. Very few people on this board will ever step on stage. Hell, the gas is the worst part of when I was bulking. I was farting all the damn time.

You can be extremly muscular at 5'9" and 150lbs actually...5'9" and 180 with around 6% bodyfat is larger than 80% of the people on this board..contrary to what they will claim.
The vast majority of the people who post on this board are posers and pussies. Only about 5% are over 200lbs and under 6'0" under 10% bodyfat.

The fact is you can't judge someone's physique based on their weight. Some people can be 5'10" and 220lbs and look like shit and someone else can be 5'10" and 170lbs and look like they could start competing.

You then look out the door and see that you're required to do the deepest one-leg squat in history to get out. The only way you'll be able to do this is to arch your back and press your feet into the floor as hard as you can to begin to lift yourself up in the seat as you would on a hack squat machine. If done correctly, you can gain up to six inches before you take the side lunge from hell to get out.
Once you're in the proper position you should be able to take the leap of faith to get out. If this wasn't bad enough, you always know that it's not over after the first step. You know there's a very good chance you'll end up losing your balance as you get out and end up taking a few awkward backward steps once you clear the door. The worst thing of all is knowing once you get out you'll have to find a way to get back in.

If you are going the low metabolism way to extend life span, you should also stop working out.
It's true that's what the animal research shows so far. However, you have to consider that the animals in the non-exercise groups were allowed to do non-regimented excercise, and all of these animals (monkeys, dogs) are naturally very active. My weight training only mimicks this natural activity level. Also the human research shows both paths, restriction and restriction with exercise, to be successful strategies for lowering aging related markers:
"Mean (SEM) weight change at 6 months in the 4 groups was as follows: controls, –1.0% (1.1%); calorie restriction, –10.4% (0.9%); calorie restriction with exercise, –10.0% (0.8%); and very low-calorie diet, –13.9% (0.7%). At 6 months, fasting insulin levels were significantly reduced from baseline in the intervention groups (all P<.01), whereas DHEAS and glucose levels were unchanged. Core body temperature was reduced in the calorie restriction and calorie restriction with exercise groups (both P<.05). OMG what a discovery that's brand new! nobody knew! General bodybuilding knowlege has always been years and years ahead of everything else. If some bodybuilders wanna have super-dirty bulk diets and not take care of themselves and drug themselves to death that doesn't mean bodybuilding practices such as bulking are bad.

Never sore ankles, joints or other pains. I'm almost 10 years in the game, start training when I was 16 :P and I know where this complaint comes from,
from people who put a big fat needle in their ass, and gain over 20 pounds of water fat and muscle in 6 weeks. Combine that with the fact that they're pushing their boundry's, lifts of +20% or more,
and you ask yourself why they complain.

I am 1,79m, 5'8" (american with their own units >:( ) 116 kg thats 252 , with 17% .
If i'm gonna loose a bunch of that fat, lets say 10%, and lose another 10% of musclemass, I would still weigh over 90 kg, that is over 200 lbs.
Juice = hate , lift your ass up and do some serious workouts. Train your legs, do deadlift, start rowing as a madman, and shrug like you never shrugged before. Buy wraps, there are only a few people genetically gifted to hold over 300lbs for reps.
Legs, ass and back are the biggest muscles a human body has, and there are the biggest gains to be made.
200 lbs is a peace of cake. Even with fat below 12%. For a normal person about 175 it should be doable within two or three years. With a bit of luck, within the first year.
