Title: I saw a guy in the gym today ...
Post by: Never1AShow on May 14, 2017, 05:49:48 AM
alternating between shrugs and standing calf raises.  He didn't look like he had just walked in off the street or out of a mental ward.  Maybe early 40s in OK shape.  Seriously though.  No excuse for this.

Almost every time I'm in the gym I see some little thing like this.

Maybe he had limited time in the gym and wanted to work both body parts that day.  ??? ???

Ive often alternated between two smaller body parts if I am pressed for time.

Makes sense, but most guys don't need to perform shrugs. The traps already get enough activation from performing deads, rows and shoulder raises.
Apart from that, shrugs require a stable stance. How stable is your stance after calf raises?

Maybe he was just doing light sets on his calves. Remember, stimulate, don't annihilate.  ;D ;D

I always see those guys making nervous hiphop moves. Not a single full ROM with a good stretch, pathetic...

He was doing dumbbell shrugs then walking over to the Smith machine for standing calf raises then back to Dumbbells

Not as worse as a rat in my gym lately. Dude occupied two lat pullies for super setting wide & small grip pull downs ::)

I have to say that I was wondering about the ability to get a pump in both the calves and the traps.  There is something O'Hearn-esque about this.

Maybe he was just making the most of his time there.
Rather than rest between sets ---just standing there---he hits calves.

Sounds like a smart guy.
