Never had a problem with it myself, been riding bikes since 2005.

Only becomes dangerous when doing it too fast to stop should someone in a car change lanes without signaling first or when someone changes lanes without looking in their side mirrors first too.

What's pointless is having a bike that's perfectly capable of cutting through traffic but being made to sit in line anyway.

Actually, research shows it is beneficial for decreasing traffic jams and preventing bottlenecking and wrecks.  Weird.

I am UK based, if people are driving properly then filtering/lane splitting isn't a problem....riding a bike or car isn't mutually exclusive, most people in the UK who ride bikes also have a car....our weather isn't good enough to just have a bike unfortunately!

Anyway, isn't 'murica the land of freedoms and personal responsibility, thought you guys would lap this shit up as a good thing, personal choice and all that.

It's great for the biker. Definitely gotta be cautious and drive defensively, but I've never had any issues. Actually more nervous about the splitter while in my car than the opposite.

It is absolutley stupid for someone to say its safe as long as everyone driving safe. Where the fuck are thess so called safe drivers. I dont trust anyone on the road. I'm a little shocked that  Princess is against lane splitting. I thought she was a right winger, don't they tend to be against government nanny state? Lane splitting should be legal however if you are not skilled enough to do it then you shouldn't do it. The government tells us how to do enough things it doesn't need to tell us how to ride our motorcycles. We can make our own decisions about our safety and live with the consequences

It's not legalized, just not illegal either. Quit whining cause you're stuck in traffic. Maybe you should learn to ride?  :D

It used to be in that gray area, but not anymore.
There's a reason it's illegal in 49 other states.

Agreed.  It's not my problem if you choose not to wear a helmet or seatbelt, unless you and my car collide and you bleed all over it.

motor cycle gangs run the highways here
People lane splitting at 100mph daily
Traffic jams caused by cars slowing down to a snails pace so they're not next to the bike gangs

I was about 70 miles from my house after officiating a mens basketball game. after the game, got on my leather jacket and boots and put my bag over my shoulder, easy ride home on my hayabusa. wrong. major gridlock on all of the freeways that Saturday afternoon.
I ended up splitting lanes for the whole 68 miles in 99 degree heat. bike was running so hot I though it would was going to melt. came threw the door to my house and started taking off my clothes as I walked. got nude right in front of my 16 year old daughter on the way to the backyard
to hit the hose. just stood there for 10 minutes.

one of the scariest days of my life.

Hasn't it been a law in CA for like 30 years? The amount of accidents caused by it is pretty low, and the time savings for being on two wheels seems a big win.

I thought it weird when I first moved out here, but once I got used to it. It's ok.

I think if you are in completely stopped traffic it's fine. Wouldn't do it gong more than 20 or 25 myself.

Vehicle Motorcycles: Lane Splitting (AB 51, Quirk) Current law does not change; lane splitting by a motorcyclist remains legal if done safely. This bill defines lane splitting as driving a motorcycle, which has two wheels in contact with the ground, between rows of stopped or moving vehicles in the same lane. The bill permits the CHP to develop lane splitting educational safety guidelines in consultation with other state traffic safety agencies and at least one organization focused on motorcycle safety.
