most of those on here that post will not know who he was. just like i will never know the "modern? singers etc. of course back in the day these people had talent worked their butts off to earn a recording contract etc. nowdays they give them to anyone. people have little to no talent and get records etc from screaming or making stupid "talk" records ( rap anyone? ) and then when someone like gregg dies they say who and only talk about cher.

Your post makes me laugh. Just because you are old and out of touch doesn't mean singers/performers today don't have talent. Today its harder to be a mega star because there are so many others out there ready to take your place. Plus, record companies want to make money, if the performer isn't in the latest music genre that makes money they drop them. Look at Darrius Rucker, finding success doing country. Do you honestly believe old Darrius made that decision himself? Nope, his people did.
As for long ago, your musicians were fueled on cocaine and ludes. Radio station DJ's were paid off to play music with money and drugs. Gregg was a herion addict along with booze and coke. Most of those guys were, they didn't have handlers (like today) to say "Hey dude, you need to chill or were dropping you, get your ass in rehab." The 1960's and 70's were a free for all.
Check out Gregg's rendition of Skynyrd's Tuesday's Gone and of course his most popular hit that was played on Top 40 radio stations "I'm No Angel."
STAY POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

R. I. P.
Been listening to his great song "I'll Be Holding On" today.
They use it in the Michael Douglas movie Black Rain.

Amen. 100% spot on.
Nowadays, we live in a world of nonsense.

I'll always remember him as the dealer in Rush too.
-
His book My Cross to Bear is one of the best rock and roll autobiographies ever written. Awesome stories from an incredible life.

Might head out this morning to buy "Live At The Fillmore East" in memoriam. I've been meaning to get it but put it off. I usually buy an album (vinyl) once or twice a month.
RIP.

Great performances from a few years back.
Some legends on that stage
Always a fav
-
RIP. The greatest white blues singer of all time. Gregg was an incredible vocalist, as well as writer, and his music will live on forever. Gregg's early 70's solo album titled, Laid Back, is brilliant, and as underrated as they come.

Gregg sounded incredible until the end. A one of a kind voice and talent.
-
A sad day for me.......was one of my favorites. :(
RIP

He sang on a song on a Brad Gillis (Night Ranger guitarist) solo record. Good tune.
That's about the extent of my caring.
Was married seven times, though?! Sounds like a real peach of a husband.

Same here. I literally saw Warren Haynes perform about 2 hours after the news was announced on Saturday, and everyone was wondering if he would even perform. After saying a few words to start the show, he went on to perform an incredible version of Dreams, and then brought up a couple other musicians and they absolutely brought the house down with an excellent version of Whipping Post to end the show. Very emotional performance from Warren. After the song ended, a guy in front of me, literally bawling his eyes out, turned to me and said, "that just made my whole fucking life maaan" ;D
Memorable moment, that I'll remember for a long time.

Eat a Peach is a great album, not that the ABB only had one. They had many. I personally have always loved the song "Ain't wastin time no more". I've seen them with Dicky Betts several times, with D Trucks as well. Great musicians. Nothing wrong with not liking them or anything else, but saying it sucks because you either don't like it, or realistically, don't get it yet, is a bit silly. Dig a little further into his music and a little deeper within yourself and you might well change your mind.

Did Jon Lord of Deep Purple not make the Hammond famous before them?
-
Bummer. RIP.

typical getbig posters. they post when they dont even know the anything about the what or who the post is about. so they say crap and try to be funny and call person names etc. why? a person has died. a man who has contributed much to this world thru real music and talent. not screaming a bunch of meaningless words with 50 lbs of chains around his neck and everyother word is fuck . he may not of been a great husband or even a great dad but we dont know that or what has happened. he had issues as does alot of people. remember him for his musical talent and what he brought to the world. dont make fun and disrespect but you ass clowns will because you have no respect no decency and no common sense. so go ahead with the childish replys like "meltdown" and other stupid 'catch phrases" that you simpltons use. and remeber i wont get in a back and forth pissing match so your just wasting time( as always)

Saw them many times live, great band...
-
Dude was awesome.great,great soulful voice.
I never get tired of hearing Midnight Rider
I was lucky enough to see on of their shows at the Beacon.
-
On a related note, I saw Derek Trucks play with his band when he was 12 years old. Just mind blowing that a kid that young could have that much talent and be on the road at that age. Always remember that when I see anything Allman Brothers related.
-
Derek and the Dominos version of Little Wing is absolutely the most emotion filled lead guitar I have ever heard. Duanes playing in that version gets me every time.

Derek Trucks is the best guitarist I have ever heard. I've played since I was a young kid but I only discovered him a few years ago. I've always loved the great Soul and Motown vocalists so to hear someone recreate that sound with a guitar slide was awe-inspiring.
