Ill bet Haku was strong

years ago rocky johnson=aka the rock's father at fitness america in whitehall pa. was playing with 225 lbs bench press with two blondes spotting him..i was just leaving when he just started lifting, so i imagine this was a warmup set.

Haku when he was known as King Tonga used to train at my gym when he was in town. I think he was the first guy I saw benching 5 plates.
I trained with Edge once at a gym in Toronto, good shape but he didn't lift heavy.

pro wrestlers are larger than life
No matter how big bbers look they are just too short and almost always get dwarfed by 6'2+ wrestlers
-
imagine if theres just one bench and there's a lot of wrestlers there you would need to wrestle them all just to get to bench on that one bench and that itself would be quite a work out so when youre done wrestling them wrestlers and ready for benching on that bench you would be outta breath and probably use the bench to lie down LOL!!! and sleep some yeah!
i think that happened to me once. anyway good job posting this thread.

After wrestling all those wrestlers to get to the bench you'd probably feel like you had your day's workout (even harder workout than expected) and then pass on the bench.
Probably would skip the bench until the next day or the day after.
Better workout though than the bench, wrestling all the wrestlers to get To the bench.
-
my thoughts exactly.
if the gym was full with wrestlers i bet i would have some bigtime functional strength from just wrestling them there's something organic with the resistance only another human body can provide that cannot be duplicated by free weights nor machines and here lies the true key to hypertrophy, i feel.
for muscle against muscle connection, some true man on man action in all its glory and natural full nudity wrestling with just a tiny bit of oil for friction where you wrestle 30 seconds with 5 different wrestlers so you always get a new fresh one.
-
Yes. Late 90's at the Powerhouse in Taylor, Michigan. Whenever they were in town, this is where they trained. Saw
Luger, Razor Ramon, The Rock, Kevin Nash and Sting. I know there were others, but can't remember. The Red Rooster aka Terry Taylor used to go to the Golds Gym in Taylor in the early 90's. I was a teenager and while he was showering, I stole his Gold's Gym Venice tank top. LMFAO. Kevin Nash was from nearby Trenton, MI and that could be whey they trained there. In person, none of them were impressive save for Lex Luger. The Rock wasn't very big. Neither tall nor wide. They all lifted like pussies and the weights used were pitiful. All drugs.
-
Yes, functional strength is king.
Best scenario would be if you had hired those wrestlers.
To get to the Kitchen to make food, you HAD to wrestle the wrestlers to even get to the oven.
To get to bed to sleep you had to wrestle the wrestlers standing in the way.
To get to the bathroom you had to wrestle as well, (maybe even wrestle in the bathtub while bathing (!))
It would make you a stronger individual with much stronger principles and morale.

Diamond Gym
Holy shit dude, my first gym from age 16-21 essentially summer 86 till winter 91 until I moved off the island
we probably have met or know each other from back then
To this day that is my favorite gym to have trained in ever
-
Diamond Gym
check your pm when you get a chance

Any wrestler that was anyone worked out at manions gym on Friday nights back when they came in to Pittsburgh to wrastle at the civic arena. I worked the front desk in the early 80s.

So what?
-
Well, he wasn't a wrestler at the time but Xavier Woods....really puny guy at the time but he was only 18 at the time.
-
Sting (favorite wrestler), luger (fucking big guy), flair, Kevin Nash, hogan, Chris Benoit (strong as shit), Eddie Guerrero, macho man, Scott steiner, Rick steiner (both went to Michigan and were cool as shit), diamond Dallas page, razor Ramon and some other WCW guys. 8)

Wonder how strong Big Show could have got if he properly trained for it. He made picking up other wrestlers look so easy. You could tell that he barely needed to put any effort into it.
-
Just last year. Im not a big fan of it anymore, but I occasionally watch WWE so I know enough faces.
I was just having a normal day when right beside me appears this huge bald guy. Now im not the type to look around me in a gym, I just get in, lift and leave when finished. But this guy was like nothing id stood beside before.
This was Ryback. I didn't really look at numbers but he was lifting very intensely.
Later on I realized the show was in town and that Cena was in the same gym that evening. Definitely larger than life these guys.
-
When WWF came to Philly in the 80's Paul Orndoff would always train at my gym. His fav exercise was deadlifts, he'd usually work up to 405 for 8-10 reps. He never benched more than 315.
-
great thread that Razer Ra-mon look like strong sob in his prime
-

I trained in the same gym as Rocky, 2008 - 2009. I also trained with Mike" Corporal" Kirchner, Chris "Tatanka" Chavis, Larry "Lex Luger" Phol, and some others.
-
Ted Arcidi was in my gym at the time the WWF was in town.............did skullcrushers for reps with 3 plates per side and tipped a kid $ 100.00 for going to get him a sub and a milkshake a block away.
Jeff King and others dwarfed most of the wrestlers who thought they were huge until the animals from my gym showed up.
Black Jack Mulligan was a house though!!

Arcidi was a beast. Kaz trained at Golds in Sunrise, a couple of times. A guy I used to train with was good friends with him. Kaz was a lean 320 when I saw him.

Yeah bro, those guys were huge for sure............others looked big until some of the better bodybuilders came in by comparison.

Have not had a chance to read most of the comments under this topic ... but my direct answer to this question is "YES".
I have trained beside a good number of old time professional wrestlers and have participated in pre-planned 'escapades' which helped some of them get newspaper coverage the next day in the local newspapers.
Trained beside (but never with) the Rock's dad when The Rock was a little kid running around the gym ... as well as many others whom most of you GetBiggers have mentioned a couple of earlier times on this GetBig Board.
-
Add to those mentioned above ...
Don Muraco
One of the Von Erik brothers
Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Lex luger
The Masked Convict if I recall correctly was a family friend.
But I never was a wrestling fan!
Anyone recall Pepi Gomez?
Some of the above, if still living, may recall HOT DOG ANNIE ... WHICH I know no GetBIGGER does.

So what?
So are these guys strong? Well, I don't go to gym to look how strong other guys are, but there is one instance I do remember. I was minding my own business when this Tony (Ludwig Borga) Halme walk at the gym to start his daily exercises. He walk at this machine and load 2 x 44lb at the both sides, and pull little warm up set of +20 reps:

It look quite effortless for the big guy.. ;D

One thing is for sure: we've got several tellers of tall tales on this thread (AKA/Compulsive lying)
-
Re: Anyone trained in a gym same time as wrestlers?
Yes... Someone has...
-
Saw Triple H, Chyna, and Rowdy Roddy Pipper train in the mid 90"s. Piper just did a bunch of silly stretches. Also saw old school wrestler Pat O'connor training young wrestlers in the mid 80"s.
-
Mark (Undertaker) Calaway in Austin Gold's gym on Bee Caves rd , don't know if he still lives there or not... but used to live up the street from what I remember.
AWESOME amazingly nice and friendly guy who introduced himself to anyone who seemed to recognize him.
One day asked me if I was using an adjustable bench in the free weight area, I said no its all yours.... bent down, pinch gripped the side of the bench pad top with one hand, lifted it up over his shoulder carried it 50 feet to where him/wife (Sara I think) were using the Smith machine and then put it down via the same one handed pinch grip...LOL
I think after he left everyone attempted the same pinch grip overhead bench lift but to no avail...
Looked like the bench weighed as much as a protein shake and just some kids toy to him..lol

To answer my own question I saw the Rock in Genesis gym , West London. He was squatting 315 for reps but like really concentrated reps.
-
Yes, I have posted about this a few times. Too much to type again.
-
Forgot Orlando Jordan saw him and talked to him all the time. Nice guy.
-
I used to train at the Pacific Athletic Club which was an insanely expensive day care for adults but also attracted all sorts of actors, athletes and such while in town since it was near one of the highest rated hotels in America. I was in the gym with all sorts of actors and athletes daily but to your question yes, saw Hulk a few times, Bret Heart, Shawn Michaels, Macho Man , George the animal, Iron Sheik, Legion of Doom,Demolition and a lot others. Never have seen the Rock in person though.
-

He is into men. Maybe he liked you?
Hes taller than I expected.

What did George Steele do? Hang out?

I know he is. He got fired from the WWE for staying in a hotel on the road with an under aged boy. Rocky Johnson trained Orlando, and used to talk about it in the gym. Orlando liked young white boys. He used to bring a kid in the gym who was about 20 at the most.
-
Psycho sid was a interesting and cool guy. 8) I think he loved softball more than wrestling. I remember him talking about softball and he'd even leave wrestling just to go play it. :D I wonder if he is still playing after he broke his ankle in the ring. :-\

To be honest, I used to see him at PowerHouse gym in Alpharetta often. He is the most imposing of all wrestlers to see in person. At least the ones I have seen. Dude was tall and had shoulders and traps for miles.
-

Bench, lots of bench. Was a scary fucking person. Didn't speak much. I barely interacted with them, just a head nod hello and that's it. That gym respected the privacy of the clients and if you bothered them for autographs and such they'd ask you to leave. Bret Hart was cool, worked in on the triceps pushdowns with me.
-
Around 2002 or so, I was at World Gym doing inclined dumbbell curls when in comes Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and asked me if he could work in with me.
I was using 35-45 lbs dumbbells, can't remember for sure. He did dumbbell presses just to warm up, using the same bench and same dumbbells I was using. We took turns for a couple of sets. Can't remember how many reps or how much more weight he used after that.
I wasn't into wrestling that much anymore at the time, and he wasn't a famous movie star at the time. I told him I enjoyed The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King. He smiled and said Thank you.
There were many other wrestlers in the gym that day, none I recognized. They were tall and huge though. They had an event in town that evening.
A few years later, Hulk Hogan and his daughter were at the same gym too. Hulk Hogan was using the Hammer Strength machines and I didn't pay any attention to how much weight he was lifting. He had a large towel that he threw over all benches and equipment before using it. Probably a smart thing to do.
His daughter was on the treadmill. She's a tall, good looking gal, at least at the time. Jimmy Hart was there too, but he wasn't working out. He just stood by the front desk chatting with the people behind the counter.
-
Chyna and Triple H trained often at my gym(Powhouse Methuen MA) back in 97-2001.
Watched Chyna bench press 315 for triple....Squat 405 for 15 reps...etc.
Undertaker and Mick Foley came by a few times over the years.
Cena trained a lot up at HardKnocks in Amesbury MA were we all trained
-
Apparently the Crunch Gym in homo West Hollywood is swarming with hollywood pussy. haven't been but I've heard stories and seen photos.

Chyna documentary out this summer.
Here's trailer:

Watched Chyna bench press 315 for triple....Squat 405 for 15 reps...etc.
Dam!

RIP? Why are all wrestlers dead?
I'm not sure about that. Saw wrestling on TV the other day and most of them looked alive
-
I got to matrix fitness in Astoria, NY. A lot of the wrestlers go there since whenever they're in town since it's fairly close to the airport. I've seen the uso brothers and dean ambrose\renee young there quite a lot. I think renee live in astoria or at least used to
-
I'm not sure about that. Saw wrestling on TV the other day and most of them looked alive
Dont let them fool you. They are ALL dead. You a seeing computer animation.
-
RIP? Why are all wrestlers dead?
Roids and drugs? What comes to Tony, he always speak against the drugs, until he find himself at the front page of the newspaper because of his drug related problems. He mix some drugs with alcohol and went crazy, polices find him face down at the floor of his apartment, and he was in coma three weeks. Got brain damage from it, and few years later shot himself. Life of the superstar ;D
-
RIP? Why are all wrestlers dead?
Addiction to painkillers from all the injuries.

Its a shame. All for a buzz / rush.
-
Addiction to painkillers from all the injuries.
Why dont they use them controlled and responsible? Why abuse?
-
They all used to come into the Central YMCA in Honolulu in the early/mid 70's...I remember Super Star Billy Graham and some others...None of em lifted heavy weights...
-
Why dont they use them controlled and responsible? Why abuse?
because there's no protocol for the type of punishment wrestlers endure, with house shows it's 2x a day 250-300 days a year of absolute punishment. Dosages for people with run of the mill injuries are already extremely dangerous... now multiply that 10 fold
-
The ones who go off the deep end with pain killers and rec drugs are the ones who had prior addiction issues BEFORE they started wrestling.
A lot of the top echelon wrestlers keep it in check(Rock,Cena,HHH,etc). They get injured and have to go on pain killers but don't fuck up.
Once an addict always one
