President Trump lauded the opening of the nation's first new coal mine in recent memory.
Corsa Coal Company will operate the mine in Somerset County, Pa. - outside of Pittsburgh.
Corsa CEO George Dethlefsen said the mine will be a boon to the struggling local economy.
He praised Trump's easing of regulations and encouragement for fossil fuel exploration.
Dethlefsen told Leland Vittert that for the 70 positions available in the mine, 400 people applied.
"It's a hard day's work every day, but it's worth it," one miner said.
Vittert said the news contrasts with Hillary Clinton's message that she would "put a lot of coal miners out of work."
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D), who endorsed Clinton, joined the mine company in watching a video message from Trump commemorating the occasion.

Props to Trump for following thru (although I'm not sure how much he personally had to do with this). But I don't see this will help MAGA.
I'd much prefer getting some new Type III reactors online and making the Yucca Mountain facility operational instead of opening coal mines.
Broad deployment of nuclear, coupled with a serious push more renewables would fundamentally alter the energy landscape in the US and would have tremendous benefits for our economy and our environment. And it would create a lot of much better jobs than "coal miner". It would lead to demand for engineers and scientists, which will lead to better STEM education and result in more Americans having viable, well paying long-term jobs and skills that will remain relevant for decades.
Coal mines will do... what exactly? Let us run more coal peaker plants and teach men to dig holes? But hey, at least we're opening something, right? Next up, a candle factory.

if you know about the story, the mine was being worked on and set up well before trump became president. i forget, but i also think its not mining coal, its mining some other coal like substance that isnt used for power generation. it then opened while he was in office. probably the article from fox should have mentioned that, but hey this is the entertainment industry (yes politics is big business/entertainment). look how serious and reactionary people are like the OP over this stuff. its pretty funny
