He looks good.  He also looks dinky short standing next to that woman back in the 70s.  Why any adult would crave attention from the Faceplant crowd is beyond me.  Those gnats have the attention span of a Fake News "reporter" from CNN.

He used to post on Ironage. Got into a heated argument with John defends about which one would win In a virtual posedown. Pretty funny how serious they took it.

If he is juicing at that age to post pictures on the internet he is a fool who is insecure with low self image. I want to see the pictures of him clean for a year. That picture will never make the internet.

Yep. I didn't want to be the one to say it but yeah. That what I remember about chatting with him on Ironage. He seemed quite a bit insecure. Joe Meeko was posting over there a lot at the same time and was so psychologically fragile. Nice guy gave great advice but obviously emotional issues. Sad Joe took his own life around that time.

It's odd because I always saw pics of these guys and put them on a pedestal. Which was not entirely my fault the wider mags really did a great job as portraying bodybuilding as a noble life endeavor. I have been slightly disappointed almost every time I met or talked with one of my child hood idols.

Some of these responses blow my fucking mind. Baldwin is a legend. The guy is 70yrs old and a true pure bodybuilder. All of a sudden guys are getting butthurt that he may be juicing. Who gives a shit. At best minimum doses. And what does it matter. He would still be a beast without the stuff. Pathetic....Baldwin is a class act. Smart dude who stayed in Florida and taught college. Trained his ass off. Competed at a nwtional level and didnt make a living sucking cock.

It's insecurity which drives us to look good in the first place. The person who is secure most likely looks like crap.

i agree that baldwin looks good and who cares if he does juice. but he isnt a "legend". people throw that word around way to often just like the word "hero". baldwin was and is a decent bodybuilder. he deserves credit for sure.

I agree. Baldwin is just a second-stringer pro that yes, was around in the Golden Era, but he ain't no Arnold, Mentzer or even Roger Walker. Keeping in shape gives him some relevance now, but that doesn't change the aforementioned fact.

Ironman Magazine did a Legends series interview with the man. Something tells me that Ironman owner John Balik...who was around throughout the entire peak of bodybuilding has a clue as to what constitutes a legend. I hate the term...even though I used it. But Baldwin was awesome and competed during the great years.

If I recall correctly he used to train and do couples shows with Laura Combes (who was considered by some to be too muscular back that).  I think she drank herself to death at a pretty young age

She died from cancer. Not drinking.

I recall reading in a magazine after she died that it was from alcohol (not long term but too much at one time)

Wiki also has her cause of death as acute alcohol poisoning

Thanks for posting this update of a class act and ageless wonder.
I met Richard about 30 years ago when he had his gym in Tallahassee , Fl.
He was actually working arms when I was there.
Unreal how massive his arms looked for his overall size and wt.

I remember he had this really pretty blonde gf, working the desk there.
Not sure why , but I ran into him at an expo years later  and asked him about her.
He smiled, shook his head and said something about how it never worked out with her.
I gotta say, she was a real beauty and seemed quite sweet.

He was immersed in his dissertation for his PhD in ancient languages and culture.
I know he ended up having a teaching career on at one of the FSU branches.

Amazing how he's maintained so well over the decades.

Pushing his agenda off to his students without teaching both sides makes him a less rational and intelligent no matter how articulate he is. Lets take you for example. Not rational, little intelligence and even more important then that, no commonsense.

Anyone know what his PhD is in? Please don't say chiropractic.

It is from FSU in a field related to classic ancient cultures and languages ( Greek, Latin, etc)
He was a prof at the FSU branch campus at Panama City, FL.
Chiropractors get the DC ( doctor of chiropractic).

I'm pretty sure he quit one of the classic bodybuilding sites (IA maybe) after arguing with guys who accused him of juicing. Seemed an immature man who has remained single and childless his whole life hence the self absorbed obsession for social media acceptance in his dotage years.  All very sad for a very good third tier bodybuilder who coulda been a winner.   I seem to remember someone posed a "rate my professor" thing and his students basically said he was a condescending arsehole.  I suspect his rage may come from remaining in the closet instead of being true to himself and accepting his homersexuality.

Seems over the top. Not like Big Al to post like this. Yes, there was an issue where Richard got upset over the steroid talk. Not that such talk was tolerated on Ironage. We never got to talk on the phone but we did exchange a few messages. I tend to respect guys who have earned a PhD. If he is a professor then he has a high standard when it comes to discussions and information. He has enough knowledge to maintain his physique without drugs.

How does anyone know that for sure? Getbiggers figure they all know who does what. Truth is in the old days nobody knew if they didn't spill the beans. Eventually, by 1980, things opened up and guys said what they did. Of course, few ever spelled out exactly what they were taking, etc. When I look back at those days and the big titles they mean almost nothing today which is a surprise. Imagine winning Mr Universe and almost nobody remembers or cares!

It is not "knowledge" that is required to maintain his physique at his age, rather it is sufficient testosterone.  I suspect you knew that but chose to word it the way you did out of respect for and in deference to his intellectual accomplishments.

Hey Vince, despite all the ball busting on here sorry to see your gym got fucked over and had to close

Shit can happen when you let an ex run your gym! Had to close quickly and auction prices the lowest I have ever seen for gym equipment. A total disaster.

Luckily I kept many pieces for myself so will have a great home gym when I get everything sorted. Kept my biceps-supinator and all the biceps machines and  also

the triceps and calf machines.
