Title: Anyone do Tai Chi?
Post by: Fallsview on July 11, 2017, 04:54:23 AM
Just finished an exhilarating Tai Chi session at Brewster Trails. I felt all my tension just melt away and really feel a sense of well being. Such a powerful art form.

How many of you guys practice?

"exhilarated" and "relaxed" are not synonyms.

"exhilarated" and "relaxed" are not synonyms.

There is no contradiction in feeling both happy and an absence of tension.

exhilaration is a heightened state, not a relaxed state
To feel elation you are exited, you cannot be relaxed and exited at the same time.

Exhilaration can mean happiness. Tension can mean strain. Again, there is no contradiction in feeling very happy and feeling strain melt away.

Since 1988, and combined it with Choy Lay Fut as my base when i was competing in Sanda and Kuoshu style comps in the late 80's and early 90's.

I give seminars to other martial arts teachers here in Europe now. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions going forward. To say it's had a positive impact on my life is an understatement.

I've been thinking about it.

Also, having trouble sleeping lately and have thought about going back to meditation again.

It always helped me to sleep.

But I don't do transcendental meditation which is that weird chanting shit.

Do you feel you could use Tai Chi in a real fight?

Do you feel you could use Tai Chi in a real fight?

Why would I be in a fight? I'm a civilized man and have lawyers for that. I also have a gun when out with my family. What are you, 15?

Do you feel you could use Tai Chi in a real fight?

I'll jump in on this. You can, but it's not as efficient as learning a combat sport where people specifically train to fight other people who specifically train to fight back.
It has some very useful ideas for self defense and it's a perfect relaxation tool as well.

A lot depends on how it's taught. I believe Nick Osipczak, an MMA fighter from the UK, is a tai chi person.

I don't like guns so I need something suitable to defend myself.  Would you recommend Tai Chi?  Also, does your family do it with you?  Sounds like a cool way to have some family bonding.
