Good or bad? He came in really shredded this year, but I liked him better heavier, personally.

Frank Zane - 1983 Mr. Olympia (His Last Mr. Olympia Contest)

1983 four minute posing routines for a lot less money (granted less competitors) as opposed to what today? :90-2:00min today then rushed off stage?

very ugly physique.

today he would be compared to some board shorts guys and they would SMOKE him in terms of symmetry, lines, better abs, proportions etc

Was 180 pounds in 1983 and just over 200 pounds in 1982. Apparently he had just been in some kind of car accident just prior to the 1983 Mr. O, hence the weight loss.

Anyone who weighs under 300 pounds with a huge GH gut is very ugly to you, aren't they?

zane cut his urethra in 1980 before the olympia thats why he was so skinny. zane was never huge but when he was in shape and standing alone he looked perfect.  but when he was next to bigger guys he looked way off. when posing symmetry proportion and style was what bodybuilding was all about the guys from the 60s into the early 80s were the best. dickerson shouldnt of won anything. ever. not even close but uncle joe needed a black champ i guess but it backfired cuz i dont think joe knew dickerson was gay. lol and no way was he gonna have robby ever win in the 70s.

A lot of people who only look at pictures and didn't see these guys in person don't understand how good they were. Dickerson had a great physique, especially in 1979 and 1980 when he was really thick. Between 1979 and 1981, Dickerson entered 21 contests and won 10 of them and he took second in the other shows (except the '79 Olympia, his first Olympia contest). That's an incredible record! At his peak, Dickerson had thickness, shape, symmetry and polish. If you didn't see him in person (same with Zane), you have no idea how good these guys were for their time. As for Robby, he won the Mr. America, Mr. International, Mr. World and Mr. Universe as an amateur and then won the first two Night of the Champions ('78 and '79), the Professional World Cup in '78 and a bunch of other Grand Prix shows so he definitely had his share of victories in the '70's.

Exactly, Dickerson was an incredible Champion. 79-80.
No athlete today in Classic physic division, even in open, could beat Platz, Bertil Fox, Bannout, Mentzer or Robinson but Franck Zane did it multiple Times. You don't realize how good he was and at light years ahead of Sadik.

Zane was brilliant in his prime.
In 83 he was over the top.
Old face, the freshness of his skin and muscles had vanished.
Still very impressive, but years earlier he looked 10 x better

zane was a great bodybuilder was bigger in person than what you see in mags. he was awesome when standing alone. looked great. but when the bigger guys came on stage he was dwarfed most of the time.   dickerson won alot of shows your right. i know that i could never understand how. he lacked balance and symmetry and size. he had 16 inch arms for gods sake.( yes 16 inch arms)  the judges liked him ( he was gay after all so he probably had no problem giving "favors" )   he looked good but not mr olympia or even the grand prix winner shape. but he got them.

Seriously?

Yes, he was riding his bike a lot with his wife for his cardio and got into an accident where he went over the handlebars and landed on his shoulder. It messed up his training that year because he
was not able to train as heavy and he had to work around the injury.

Again, it's one of those things where you had to see Dickerson on stage in person to realize how good he was. The bodybuilders today (since the '90's) are much, much bigger but back then, there were few real mass monsters. Dickerson had polish and quality to his muscles, he had great shape and proportions and he knew how to present himself. Looking at pictures of him now, it's easy to see his weak points but you have to see him in person (same with Zane) to appreciate how good they were.

I've seen Zane & Dickerson on the Olympia stage.
Zane does look good & comes across very well for one lighter muscled
Dickerson - Nope - some good body parts & some awful ones
Not in the same league as Zane - Never should of won the Mr. O
Plenty of Physiques way better than him around at that time.

Zane was a class act. Dickerson was a great poser but had horrible arms and badly torn chest. He should've never beaten Zane. Dickerson was gifted not only the Olympia but also the two 2-nd places in 80 and 81.

in my opinion every win dickerson got was a gift. he had an ok build but not symmetrical or proportioned and was not "big". period. he was a decent poser but thats about it. he did have good calves.

Dickerson at his peak years had some serious density and his body looked carved out of ice compared to many guys standing next to him. He competed for a crazy length of time. Two second place Olympias and a win speaks volumes.

Danny Padilla is 158cm/5'2", Tom Platz 173cm/ 5'8", and Albert Beckles 170cm/5'7", so Zanes height could be 175cm/5'9" as he claims.
