The father of the modern Zombie film passed away at age 77. While known for the Zombie films, he was a pretty good overall director.

X2.... I've probably watched about 100 times. So much stuff going on there. So much commentary. Much more than just a zombie movie but definitely the greatest zombie movie ever. RIP.

I was always a Day of The Dead man myself. A few others liked from him were -
The Dark Half. One of the better Stephen King adaptions. It's faithful to the book and a nice, straight ahead noirish horror -

Also Martin was a decent film, a neat little vampire / mental illness story. For anyone curious, the full film is here -

day of the dead was filmed in mushroom mines a few miles from my house. I had friends in it who played zombies.
