Title: GM Considering Killing Impala, LaCrosse, XTS, and Volt
Post by: Palumboism on July 21, 2017, 04:40:50 PM
By Timothy Cain
The possibility, or even the necessity, of turning General Motors’ Hamtramck, Michigan, passenger car assembly plant into an SUV/crossover facility in the next half-decade has the company considering the discontinuation of the Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Volt, Buick LaCrosse, and recently launched Cadillac CT6.

According to a report in Reuters, General Motors is in talks with the United Auto Workers about replacing the increasingly unpopular products currently built in Hamtramck with in-demand utility vehicles. Also in question is the future of the Michigan-built Chevrolet Sonic and the Canada-built Cadillac XTS, which has enjoyed stays of execution in the past.

This is the end of an era.  GM would be discontinuing their entire full sized car line.  The American car is fading fast.   :(

The Taurus sells worse than the Impala.  I wouldn't be surprised if Ford canceled the Taurus as well.

I don't think For would do that,it's all they got for a passenger at now,no?

The Fusion and Focus would still be sold.  The next Taurus was just going to be a stretched Fusion anyway.

It's the end of the "Car Era" in general.

Sedans are a shrinking market. SUV/Crossovers are growing like mad.

Expect more of this from other manufacturers.

Low oil prices and a big shift in market demand.

Shame too, those are good cars.

Unbelievable that Cadillac only has 2 SUVs.
Biggest market on the planet for SUVs: the USA

Even BMW has about what, the X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and upcoming X7, so six SUVs

Very poor management by GM

Very true.  Cadillac's management is clueless.

BMW actually purchased Land Rover because they weren't sure if customers would buy a BMW SUV.  When they found out customers didn't have a problem with an SUV, they went to work and ditched Land Rover.

GM has turned into a bank...that occasionally sells cars.  No private company should get public money because they can't compete!

GM got it right, at first, with Caddilac's initial early 2000's come back...then they became obsessed with chasing the Germans and forgot their place. They wanted their prestige sedans and spent billions on the Sigma platform and heap of cash on the Omega and Alpha platform. Best part about it? Omega and Alpha can't be used to make RWD SUV's...they're stuck.

The marketing is godawful, too. Whoever came up with the "|American Garage" add many years ago is hopefully eating dumpster pizza right now.

True, GM destroyed the Buick brand years ago.  They're so deluded they actually believe Buick competes head to head with Lexus.  The sad thing is no matter how good a car or SUV Buick makes, they still won't sell because the brand is perceived as an old mans car.  To a certain extent, Cadillac suffers from the same fate, but not as bad.  Escalade is a brand in itself and is their biggest success.
