Great video . . . The stuff from the 79 Olympia will give you insight into what John Hanson was saying, that you had to see Zane ( and Dickerson ) to get how good they were. I still can beat t believe Vince Basil said he could beat Frank.

dickerson sucked in my opinion. not even close to a real pro body. zane when by himself was awesome. like a statue. makkawy was excellent too. so was padilla. but when you got these guys next to bigger guys it all went away. but they had classic bodybuilding perfection .

I never like Dickerson... totally overrated.
Mentzer was good when he first came on the scene, but he looked small and flat in '79 and '80.

For the record Vince said it was AMBITION to beat Zane. And who knows what would have happen
if Vince started pushing the envelope like Zane did. Vince was no slouch back in the day at 2 dbol, 10mg, per day.
In this day and age with the internet I wonder why people try to put words in other people's mouth

I would have beaten Goodrum with the physique I had in 1964. No worries there at all.
I wrote in an article that it was my ambition to beat Frank Zane. That was when I won the Mr Canada title in 1970. Who knows what I might have achieved had I gone to LA to live instead of Sydney? I never worried about Zane. He didn't win the Olympia until Arnold retired. He wouldn't have beaten Sergio, either. Frank came to my penthouse apartment with Robert Nailon I think in 1978. When I came home Frank told me I didn't have to visit Disneyland. Why not, Frank, I asked? Well, because you have been in Fantasyland all your life. I thought he was a dickhead for saying that in my home. I never liked or respected him after that. A diminished Arnold beat Frank in 1980 and I was there. Frank wasn't the best that day. It was between Arnold and Chris Dickerson.
After the Mr Canada contest in 1970 I was at English Bay Beach in Vancouver. That was where I hung out in those days. I met Dr Michael Walczak from LA who told me I looked good. I knew about him because he supervised some top bodybuilders in LA re steroids. He was in the magazines and even judged the Mr Olympia contest in 1980. He told me I could be a Mr Universe in 6 months if I took Decadurabolin under his supervision. I was more interested in clearing up my skin. He related how many of the top guys and people running bodybuilding were gay. Yeah, I could see where this line was going so I invited him to dinner at my place with my wife. After that he lost interest and I never saw him again.
I tend not to train that hard unless I get motivated. Had I been at Golds Gym in LA I might have found sufficient motivation to win a Universe. I wasn't keen to experiment with steroids and used only 2 Dianabol tablets a day for a couple of months prior to the Mr Canada. My ex got them from a hospital. In those days I would have been too embarrassed to approach a doctor for a prescription and I had no idea how to obtain them any other way. It was considered cheating to use drugs. My mate Hans Gensow was disgusted when he found out I used Dianabol. He found out in 2004 and I was ashamed that he did. That was the way we were in the good old days. Health was important to us.

Because misquoting people is a contemporary technique for fuelling fire and by the time the truth emerges, the story is over and nobody cares.
A lot of people assuage their own mediocrity by trying to bring others down with this technique. Either they're too fucking stupid to comprehend the difference or they don't care - makes no difference, NOBODY ever talks about the truth, once the bullshit has gained traction.
That's why they love teh pedo shit with Basile.

When the 1% (me) actually go read the article for the truth, it doesn't really claim anything of the sort. It claims they were heard fighting and doesn't actually offer a reason up for why he killed the lady.
But that's too late. The fires are burning. All the dudes who have been fucked over by mouthy women are now imagining the woman sort of deserved a slap at the very least. All the women protectors are extra furious because a woman should be able to laugh at a man.
And most of the fires are burning on bullshit exaggeration to begin with, because none of us would be talking about a simple story where a husband killed a wife after an argument.
So to be clear "in this day and age" manipulation of the truth is worse than ever.

you just cant compare 70's b.b with today,its on another planet.That being said you have to remember all those guys were freeks back then always pushing the envelope.the b.b.'s today have too much mass to compare and the body has a whole different look,whether that is something you like or not,but the two simply cant be compared.They need to be appreciated (or disliked) on there own merits.

Zane looked good relaxed. One of the only guys who never put his arms out to the sides when standing 'relaxed' on stage.
He never beat Arnold or Sergio at their best but he won a lot of contests.

No, that was in July or August of 1979 the same weekend as the diamond cup which was held in Vancouver, if I recall correctly. The seminar was held in Montreal at a Holiday Inn ( it was originally to be held at Caruso's Gym.) Frank was only 6 or 8 weeks out from his third Olympia win.

It probably has a lot to do with the guys back then training for 5 hours a day.
Whereas today's guys train for an hour a day and eat the rest of the time.

1979 Olympia was Zane's all time best look.
He had a nice overall combination of conditioning, deep separation with sufficient mass.
In my opinion, Zane had the greatest classic physique , period.
He won 3 straight Olympia contests ( 1977, 78, 79) and beat a young Arnold at the Universe.
