Title: IFBB suspends the NPC - discussion and updates
Post by: stuntmovie on September 16, 2017, 01:13:56 PM
Well it's about over and all sorts of new and welcomed stuff has happened ..... but the big verbal "bomb" will be dropped tonite and should prove to be a major topic of conversation on this here GetBig Board ocne it's all said and done.

So, "Stand by to stand by and make sure your brass is bright and shiny for what's supposed to be an unexpected announcement this evening at the finals!"

So with that so aptly stated .... The Amateur Olympia was a major success with a vast majority of foreign (non-USA) competitors in each and every line-up .... Mexico, Brazil, and a large number of worthwhile contenders flying up from South America and some regions of this planet I never even knew existed.

This was the first Amateur Olympia event ever held within the USA and it surely will continue to be a success in the years to come.

This proves that all things bodybuilding-related are growing by leaps and "pounds" throughout this big blue planet. And i do realize that that will be depressing news to some Getbiggers cause it sure ain't dead ... so send no flowers nor condolences!

And those who really do hate this game just might suffer more serious depression after tonite's announcement!

No photos to include here yet but if any GetBigger can post this evening's big announcement video here .... it would be appreciated.

I are too dumb to know just how to do that correctly.

More to follow. Thanks for listening.

It is Greek to me.

It means that any NPC show can no longer give professional qualifications to competitors to become an IFBB pro.   More than likely the IFBB is planning to create and build up their amateur division.

Right now...North American Championship, Arnold Amateur, Canadian Nationals, Amateur Olympia, and any other international federation that the IFBB runs.

To tie in with all this remember that AMI outright owns the the whole Olympia now as well.

I think there is going to be a shift with the IFBB Pro League/NPC running their own worlwdide federation separate from the International IFBB

Possibly but the IFBB would be on the losing end as the NPC has the US market.  The IFBB operates out of Spain so it would be difficult to go out on its own.

that is why  the NPC is probably going global with the sanctions

lets be real, the NPC already runs the pro league from a media standpoint, like wtf is an amateur league doing so much media stuff at pro shows with international promoters on staff doing interviews for example.

I don't mean this as a slam but the NPC/IFBB pro League has obviously outgrown the old blue suits of the Original dlusion of chasing Olympic Glory International a post office box in every country makes us global Ifbb

Lets also throw in the real elephant in the room.....since the addition of all these crazy categories these shows have become a cash cow for promoters with all the entrant fees, family buying tickets etc.

That kind of cash always creates division between percieved master and minion

The NPC has always been the feeder system for the IFBB. I think the problems could be traced back to when the NPC started giving out pro cards to more competitiors---winners of each weight class. And I think they even went further than that. This created less quality in the Pro ranks, but the NPC then saw that they would have more competitors compete for each weight class. Along with adding Divisions for the women, and a few more for men. Then they started seeing the resulting cash flow, and so they continued more. Greed is the root of it all.

Some of the bigger NPC shows hand out more than 100 pro cards  ::)

I think that one recently in Pittsburgh bragged about more than 150. Definitely a dilution going on.

And so, supply and demand. The elusive Pro Card now means less than it did 10 yrs ago, and 10 yrs ago, it meant less than 10 yrs before that. The NPC has chosen quantity over quality.

All Manion needs to do is say good bye to the IFBB and put on a few pro shows of his own. He already pretty much owns all the amateurs and they will most likely follow him. No one really cares about the pro shows other than the Olympia and Arnold classic. If AMI goes with Manion then the IFBB is done as far as the USA is concerned.

Only got through reading page one of this topic and although it somewhat pertains .... it is not precisely correct.

And who the hell changed the title of my post to "Re: IFBB suspends the NPC - discussion and updates."

I honestly had no idea about that notice/proclamation/ or whatever it is that it is official known as  .... although it does seem to make sense out of what is shortly gonna happen.

Now to read page two and see if any GetBigger is precisely correct.

You guys who have a short attention spans should ask your mommy or your daddy to help you out or....  simply just don't  read anything by this guy called stuntmovie.

He writes long shit in order to make it clear and as precise as possible.

Respectfully stated of course.

There has always been a questionable relationship between the amateur IFBB and NPC in the united states.
The IFBB North Americas is judged using NPC judges and NPC scorecards.
It is supposed to be an IFBB event, but is just another one of Manions shows.

I am surprised at this outcome, as this has been going on for a long time.
I am guessing that the amateur arnold is judged by NPC judges as well.

Title: Re: Should Jim Manion grow a Weider Mustache?
Post by: Matt on September 17, 2017, 06:09:38 AM
My thread with the rude e-mails he sent me got deleted.  That will be the last time I ever send Manion any message just as  courtesy, attempting to clarify something.  I simply wanted to confirm if it was alright to take video footage of individual supplement booths and he said "I highly doubt the vendors will let you take video of their booths."

Yeah, ok - "highly doubt" it?  I've NEVER had a problem taking video footage of supplement booths.  To the contrary, the vendors want the coverage, knowing that YouTube garners a lot of views.  But he just had to use his clout to dissuade me from getting footage, most likely because FLEX magazine is failing brutally at this point, and he hates the fact that YouTube is a big reason for this.

Manion is a big part of the reason why I stopped covering expos.  I didn't want anything to do with him having ultimate say as to whether I could attend an expo or not - the way that he banned John Romano from attending NPC/IFBB shows.

Disgusting, but great work.  I'm disgusted with your work.

If I looked like that, I would probably be as rue as he is too.  I'm pretty sure pros pose for free at his Pittsburgh Pro show because they know it's a chance to kiss up to Manion - so year after year, the guy is saving $3,000 to $5,000 per pro, and probably has half a dozen or a dozen pros posing free of charge.  Talk about stingy, given his salary, overseeing the "non-profit" organization that is the NPC/IFBB.  ::)

An official statement by the NPC should be coming out tomorrow or Monday.  Out of respect for the Olympia today, which is and should be the main attention, they are waiting.

I wouldn't be surprised when they start their own professional league

NPC aligns with Arnold and makes the Arnold Classic their top show with a few other US shows Night of Champions, LA, TX, FLA.  This triggers a battle like took place in the early 80s when NPC and AAU split, only now in the Pros.  This fight should have happened decades ago, but Arnold didn't back bodybuilders Union.

I would love to see Arnold have his own deal. No big bellies, a focus on posing and entertaining the crowd, and good prize money.

What's going on? You claim there's a before the olympia announcement and no one here knows what it is and not one thing is announced?

They're upset because they caught some low level NPC dude dating a non-drugged, non-lifting, real woman.

This sounds like an attempted power play by the IFBB. As someone else said, the Olympia is diluted.  Where's the trans-oly, the midget-oly, the schmoely-oly, the gay-only-oly, the olezbia, teen-oly, the transteen-oly, the dindu-oly, the natur-oly and what the fuck ever these douchebags can milk for money?

The classic physique class saw the light because of this, and I'm surprised that the AC hasn't adopted this class (good question for Arnold to answer).
The thing is that there's a public for almost every type of physique, ranging from 'natural' to 'men's bikini', to classic physique to hardcore bodybuilding.

This. The watering down of the product in the IFBB.

Tonight, not tonite.

Agree. In fact I think Arnold is poised to take over professional bodybuilding with the passing of the Weiders. And that would be pretty interesting. With pregnant Phil winning last night anything is an improvement over the IFBB.

DAVE, Yes ..... I sent the same message to Vince and also to Beefy and doing my best to send it to the GetBiggers who seem to have an interest in this sort of 'stuff" without responding with unintelligent comments.

But if lawyers are  assisting in this 'situation' everything may take a 180 and changes may be made which the general public may not even be aware of..

But I think it's too BIG for that to happen.

Compared to 10-15 years ago, pro cards are given away like candies. As a result you have many shitty to average looking 'pros'.

Also the sport has grown tremendously so the % of competitors converting to professional in their respective classes is on track. Not to mention most shows are converting to dual IFBB/NPC shows having a round for the pros at regional shows. With prize money.

No, it's not on track with a weak lineups on most pro shows as a result. In the past only the overall winner got a pro card and now you have shows where every(!) class winner gets one and sometimes even the 2nd placer. Compare this situation with the situation outside the US, which is a night & day difference.

Stunt, I honestly don't see anything or anyone saving "bodybuilding" from itself.  Most people don't care about it because the cats long out of the bag.  Everyone knows its all about the drugs. Now more than ever, it's nothing but a schmoefeastival.  Fetishists are probably the #1 customer of the IFBB and NPC and just looking at those that "judge" and watch it, it's easy to see why.

Gone are the days you and I recall.  When it was mostly family and friends that attended shows.  When it was health oriented.   When a waist was not a waste.  When a tan was as real as the muscles on most of the competitors and even users took time off the drugs.

The Weiders wanted to "legitimize" bodybuilding by getting it into the Olympics.  Hopefully that will never happen as it is nowhere near a true sport and the Olympics are already turgid with crap.  It is quite possible that the only thing that can return bodybuilding to sanity is if a lot of competitors start dropping like flies from their drug use.  And Arnold?  He either can't or won't stop the onslaught of doped up midgets and clowns.  He allowed Cedric to dry hump him onstage so he's gone full beta 'tard now and in the process has neutered himself.

I know I haven't attended a show in nearly three decades and there is no way I will because I refuse to support this mess with my hard earned money and precious time.

https://generationiron.com/breaking-ifbb-suspended-npc/

A major shake up behind the scenes between the IFBB International and NPC.

It looks like the Mr. Olympia has become one of the biggest weekends for bodybuilding in more ways than one – as it’s been reported that the IFBB International (not to be confused with Jim Manion’s IFBB pro) has suspended the NPC.

During the 2017 Amateur Olympia that was held in Vegas this week, the IFBB refused to let their judges take part in the event. This was apparently due to the fact that the NPC were insisting that their judges take control of the event.

This has now been confirmed as a letter was released to the public by the CSFF (South American Confederation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) – explaining that the NPC judges do not have the same qualifications as international IFBB judges. Essentially, NPC judges do not have an international card.

Because of this reveal, the IFBB have pulled their judges out and the CSFF asked the IFBB to take action against the NPC.

It looked like the IFBB took notice, as shortly after, a press release was issued by the IFBB stating that the NPC are suspended temporarily for the events that occurred at the Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas between the 13-14 September 2017.

So what does this mean moving forward? Is IFBB International separating from the NPC? Or is this just a small bump in the road that will be soon solved and eventually forgotten about? It’s hard to tell now with the little information we’ve been given. But we’ll all need to keep a close eye on what happens next to find out.

SF, To make this brief for the benefit of some of   my anti-fans …..

An NPC Judge must be a member of the NPC organization, but does not have to be an NPC competitor. An NPC Judge can judge NPC contests.

An IFBB judge must be an IFBB member but not necessarily an IFBB contender and can participate as a judge in NPC and IFBB events.

Sandy Williamson is an IFBB judge but she is called an NPC judge when judging an NPC event and she is called an IFBB judge when judging an IFBB event.

But I don’’t know if she is required to have two membership cards to judge both contests., but it would appear unreasonable if that was a necessity.

Someone feel free to correct me if I am in error here. I am not easily offended … so rip away,

More to comment on but I hate it when GetBigger get offended.

SCOTT, I gotta disagree with you this time out  about 'people don't care about  it (bodybuilding) due to common knowledge about the drugs involved'.

That sounds like a logical statement but drugs or no drugs ... the NPC and the IFBB have been  growing beyond belief these past few years.

And so has public interest. And now Amazon!

Just  a few years ago  a promoter was lucky if he had 30+ entrants.

Today he's lucky to have 700!

And that alone spells G-R-O-W-T-H with a capital "G".

Fetishists, schemes, or family members... each of whom pay the same price for a ticket .... add to the success of each and every contest and the promoters never block entry to those with fetish or schmoe licenses nor family members with 13 kids.

And most fans can't tell the difference regarding who's what and who's what-not anyway.

SHIT  ,,,, The point I want to make is .... Bodybuilding and all things related to bodybuilding is/are experiencing a growth similar to the hula hoop phase of the 1960's.

But this time there's no end in sight.

I'm confused, does this mean that you can no longer get an IFBB Pro card by winning the Nationals or the USA's, etc and you have to win a new IFBB Pro qualifier contest to get your pro card? Why the fuck do the Nationals now? It will become completely dead... no one wants to prep for a show that you used to be able to turn pro at, when winning it now means absolutely nothing,....

Title: Re: IFBB suspends the NPC - discussion and updates
Post by: dearth on September 18, 2017, 06:53:25 PM
How did Manion obtain the Olympia?

about 15 (or so) years ago, the "IFBB pro league" was formed. Manion ran the pro league (primarily USA including the olympia),
and Santoja ran the amatuer league (the rest of the world)

I believe that this was an outcome of Wayne Demillia forming group called "pro division international"

Side note - the Olympia stopped being an international event since 92 in Iceland.

Ben and Joe are rolling around in their graves. Manion has 100% control now.
