Title: Dumbell pullover
Post by: Yanin on October 11, 2017, 10:07:59 PM
I recently incorporated this exercise and I admit it's taxing and strenuous, but has anyone made any gains from this exercise? Not really even sure what it's doing..

I used to do it a lot back in the day.  Not sure if it did anything for me.

If I were just starting out I would shit-can it in favor of more dips.

I tried it when kind of first starting out proper training and it wasn't great for my shoulder so stopped doing it. However, in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, it's recommended doing this exercise for rib cage development. For anyone just starting out, it's probably a good exercise as you can probably develop your rib cage better at a younger age.

Maybe so.  I did them because Arnold said to do them.  I read that book 500 times.  My training partner and I counted our reps in German.

I'm on a more basic program now that I am getting older.

Same here. Some of the exercises were great and I definitely agree (and feel it really worked) when Arnold gave the advice of full ROM, training to failure on every set. Some people stop short of failure and I don't know why.

Yeah, once you get into training you learn what type of program works and not necessarily to do every exercise.

Everyone is different.  It took me many years to figure out what worked best for me.

I'm lifetime natural.  I made some good gains but they are very humble compared to those folks that had a greater tolerance for risk.

I'm starting to get a little older and I still look like a pootie slayer.  I'm really glad I stumbled onto the movie Pumping Iron.  It's been good for me.

I've been working out for 12 years now half natty (pro hormones) and i discovered pumpining iron about 3 years into it but now that more and more vintage body building vids are being up loaded I'm seeing more and more classic exercises, so I decided to implement this.

I see idiots pulling max lift deads all the time at my gym, one younger guy asks me why I don't lift harder, I simply replied with "I lifted hard when I was 20 now I'm 30 so I lift smarter" they don't realize I'm actually working harder than them through my mind muscle connection and contractions..

It’s a great exercise
I do it with 2 kettlebells or 2 dumbells
It’s amazing for loosening up shoulders and lats
Try doing it in a leg raise hold on a bench
Or doing a glute bridge position on bench-so you can’t overextend at the bottom
If u have a sore neck or tight shoulders and lats-when done correct it will help you

Did them for 20 years.  Great finishing exercise for chest.  Can't do them anymore because they cause nerve impingement in my shoulders.

For me, yes.  No more pain since I stopped doing them, so the correlation was legit.

It helped Vince Goodrum nail he's side chest pose and secure a trophy in his last comp showing.

I used to do them to try to expand my ribcage as the great Arnold said they would.

gave it up years ago when it seemed to aggravate my lower back... never understood why they made such a big deal out of the nautilus pullover machine.

the deal was you were supposed to do a set of pullovers followed by a set of 20 reps squats to increase your ribcage. only worked why you were young and still growing, according to legend. ??? ??? ???
