A principal at a Massachusetts elementary school has formally apologized for displaying a tombstone with President Trump’s name at a Halloween party.
Telena Imel, principal of West Parish Elementary School in Gloucester, Mass., wrote in a letter to families that the decoration, which was part of a game, showed disrespect.
“Intentionally or not, it inappropriately brought a political agenda into what was designed to be a fun family affair,” Imel wrote.
Imel wrote that it “saddens” her to learn that some families were made uncomfortable by the tombstone, and that school-sponsored events are “not the place” for politics.
Upset parents sent photos of the decoration, a cardboard tombstone with the name "Don Trump," to Republican State Committeewoman Amanda Orlando Kesterson, who wrote about it on Facebook.
“I find it absolutely despicable that the PTO of one of our local elementary schools would bring this political agenda before our children,” Orlando Kesterson wrote, referring to the Parent-Teacher Organization. “The parents or teachers responsible for this disgusting display should claim responsibility publicly and apologize publicly as well. … We should teach our children that the office of the president ALWAYS deserves respect. Our school system is not the place for nasty political agendas.”
The parents who brought the decorations have apologized, according to Boston CBS.
