Happy Birthday, Marines throughout the world.!!!
November 10, 2017 .... 242 years if my memory banks are still functioning.!
And all my heartfelt gratitude to the 1st Airborne, US Army who pulled our ass out of a life and death situation because no one else could get to us.
Interesting story there if anyone is interested.

Well done; indoctrinated beyond belief...private!

EVO, I think the I already posted my Eq story a few years back if you are interested in horse vet stories, just let me know.
META, I think the same way whenever someone mentions the word "VET".
A related Vet story that you may be interested in.. but maybe not.
We woke uo one morning with one of the animals laying on my favorite chair. An old and loving dog who was ready to give it up but we took him to the vet to see of anything could be done to ease his passing.
Long story short ....we had to put him to sleep the next morning.
The "Vet" bill was $1,800!
But he passed away peacefully.
I've given vets more money throughout my lifetime than I ever paid from my college ed-u-ma-ca-tion.
If you can't join the Corps .... become a Vet!
But make the Corps your first prority!

I have just invested in a comprehensive pet insurance deal for my cat...
I love that little black bastard to bits, so dont want to be forced into decision over him because of money.
He lives like a king: eggs, tuna, salmon, ultra premium cat food (human grade meat), water fountain...know what I'm coming back as...
-
EVO, I totally understand your feelings about 'animals'.
I feel likewise and would rather shoot a bad 'guy' rather than a bad dog!
What insurance company did you choose and how much do you pay monthly and what percentage of the vet bill is covered?

....was gonna reply to stunt with the exact same thing, but didn't want to derail the thread. But I can say to you gents that pet insurance is the way to go. My lil brother squeak was a purebred maine coone, and had a genetic deficiency which called SMA, which was god damn heartbreaking. He and I were good to keep it going until he had a stroke (as far as they go, it was easy, and we had conscious time after and was there as it happened), and the insurance really, really helped. Bru, I spent at least 30000 (Rand) on him happily, and they paid out like 60%. Lol, we stayed in Holland, the UK , and SA, multiple locations. I happily spent a lot more than a car on him throughout his life and would bleed to do it again.
Shit like maxillo facilal surgery? Dude, no way any mortal can afford that.
Lol at the tuna. Sir Squeaks was fed well, but our current two ONLY eat tuna, and sometimes ground beef.

MORGAN, What does 30,000 rand (South Africa???) convert to in US dollars? And great to hear that you are giving Sir Squeaks good care regardless of the cost.
But back to the USMC .... Most USMC bases have a pedigree bulldog mascot with the appropriate uniforms of the day.
As pups, they are Privates and a very few can even reach the rank of Sgt. Major.
-
Stunt....2102 dollla as of tonight. A bit of an amount for mortals. I think you guys in the US and HI get hit a LOT harder by medical cost, even for animals, which quite frankly is criminal in both cases today.
LOL at "sergeant major at best", thats epic

Thanks, Stunt, I did find it interesting. My first dog is fast approaching that stage in his life now, and I worry all the time. Seven years ago I was lying down along a HESCO wall one evening, reading a short story by Tolstoy while stray dogs barked and howled in the distance. There was a particular line which had an impact on me then, and I'll recall it for you now: 'All the evil in man, one would think, should disappear on contact with Nature, the most spontaneous expression of beauty and goodness'. When I'm with my dog, there is no fury within me that cannot be pacified by his presence.

1775.. Tun Tavern.... yep ....

META,I think you said it better than that Russian guy whose books I tried to read but could never finish because of the crazy names he gave the principal characters.
Did you say the following or did he?
"When I'm with my dog, there is no fury within me that cannot be pacified by his presence."
-
Thanks, J.

Dear Stunt,
Yes, that last line was my own. You should definitely give those Russian heavyweights another try, though! Dostoevsky is my favourite, but I totally understand the frustration with the names! lol
