His only flaw is he’s a crossfitter...and it shows.

The chic in the background looked disgusted as he appeared to accomplish the lift

I agree with this statement [from the article]:
A 375lb deadlift isn't terrible for a 39-year-old who has a busy schedule as the Executive Director of The Trump Organization, although as someone who was a professional coach for years, I think there was likely a few lifts before this where he should have stopped.
But this one seems to be a bit of an attack on President Trump:
You see, when you push past your capabilities so dramatically, you get into positions you haven't earned and aren't ready to work through. On top of that, if you're either not listening to the professionals who surround you or they're not helping guide you in the right direction, there can be real dire consequences for your actions.
I haven't worked out for a little over seven months now. But the good news it, it comes back fast. I don't think I can deadlift 375-lb right now, but I would be somewhere over 405-lb by the new year if I started Monday. But for someone who is a busy person and has a lot more going on in his life, 375-lb is a very good lift. I don't know why anyone would criticize that.
How many on the board deadlift 575, for example? I suspect not many. Now go down to 475 - a larger number of us lift that, or have lifted that, but when we did, were we not among the strongest at our gyms?
My bet would be that Trump Jr. could walk into any gym in North America, and likely be in the top 20% of strongest people there, at any given time. Obviously some hardcore gyms would be exceptions, but in general, can we really deny that 375-lb is a good deadlift?

375 is a great deadlift for the average guy. Few people are competitive lifters so why bother going higher?
I deadlifted for a while and got into the mid 400's before I felt like my spine was coming apart, lol. And I really couldn't see the benefit because i was more interested in bodybuilding.

Eesh. His form looks like a back injury just waiting to happen.

If it takes steroids to "deadlift" 375 lbs, one should just kill themselves.
I give JR a 185 deadlift max with proper form. Pretty horrible.
120 lb girls are deadlifting 405 all day long without drugs.

We don't care about form, we're freaks!
-
This is a very sensitive topic. Imagine if he wasn't white, right winged, had a perverted sex act, and was broke.
-
his form could only improve if he had alot more strength at the start of lift, hes setting up his back for catastrophe
-

Hahahhaa
-
Some people just have a rounded back when they lift.. even some high level deadlifters.
I have a nasty looking deadlift - but it feels 100% normal. I stopped taking videos of it, it was so horrific to watch.
As long as the motion is continuous and the lower back never comes up, it's not too bad... for some.
-
That’s a pretty decent number for a scrawny-limbed guy that looks like he doesn’t even lift

Looks as pathetic as Obama did in the weight room. Today's wimps pile on those faggoty bumper plates and think they are heros.

Oh...you mean that video of obama doing that combo step-up dumbbell curl with the 8lb crome weighs?
-
Decent accomplishment for such a scrawny guy, but my back hurts watching that.

Looked like a golfers workout
-
Whether a 375lb deadlift is a good lift or not will depend on the circumstances of the individual.
I think it's a decent lift for the average 'fit' man who isn't a consistent or serious weight trainer.

How much are you deadlifting these days?

Yes. Bumper plates are just as pathetic.

But Coach, you always taught us that crossfit is for Liberals ???

Not horrible, it looks like it could be close to double BW, and he didn't hitch or spaz out mid point. If you played with his form a bit to get a better start, he'd probably have more pounds in him. Seems like he's more of an endurance guy from the couple of fitness article I've read.
-
a clenched fist celebration? :-\

But Coach, you always taught us that crossfit is for Liberals ???
No I didn't. I've always taught that choosing "CrossFit" is for idiots. (waiting for the Trump spin)

Crossfit has become such a HUGE thing, that its almost like EVERYONE is doing cross-fit (exaggerated for effect).
The fact is, people just don't want to go to the gym and lift weights. They find it boring. Crossfit gives them an option to exercise while having fun. I am guessing this is one of the reasons why crossfit became so huge.

This.
Crossfit is for people who want to do "something" but don't want to take the time or effort into learning and doing things correctly and combining proper form with basic body mechanics. Then when they hurt themselves, they wear the blown shoulders or knees like a badge of honor. And of course tell you every five minutes about how it doesn't stop them from continuing.

True Adonis, in your opinion, how much should one deadlift that would be considered impressive?

I don't think people who crossfit just want to do "something." I think they are hoping that they could have fun, get in shape, and learn proper lifting techniques, hence why they do crossfit and all those other types of workouts (tough mudder races). For many people, traditional weight lifting/bodybuilding is boring. People want something different, which is why other forms of exercise are blowing up. I guess its just finding someone who is knowledgeable.

I never asked them what was driving them, but your explanation sounds plausible. However, observing them, they give me the impression that they're neurotic & nervous members of a cult. They're obsessed by the number of pounds they're 'lifting' (well.. moving) and by the stopwatch on the wall.
-
yes they need not to obsess over number of pounds or the stopwatch
they need to obsess over grainyness, shredded glutes, arm size, lat to waist ratio etc as normal people!!!

good for him
PRs are always fun to set.

500 should be the average bench mark to hit for any lifetime natural lifter. Impressive would be anything over 650.

I don't think they enter Crossfit worrying about the numbers of pounds or the stop watch. I think its the result of not knowing better.
But, I think its obvious that people are doing crossfit and other forms of exercise because they are jaded by traditional lifting and are looking for something different.
Hopefully these people can find a crosffit trainer or coach who can steer them in the right direction.

Bold part -> Which is why call them members of a cult.
When I see their schedules on the white board (i.e. their 'altar'), they pretty much limit themselves, since almost every machine/isolation movement is forbidden by their 'bible'.
Anyway, to each his own, and I hope they stay free from injuries (with their kamikaze movements)
