Did any of the UK Getbigger's see this? Be There - did you catch this one?
I caught it on Fight Pass, and can definitely recommend it for the $9.99 a month. It's absolutely well worth the price tag, and as long as I watch one fight a month, I will keep ordering it.
This was sad for Bisping - I know he wants to keep going, but as Georges St-Pierre said to him, there is no benefit in being a punching bag for the younger guys.
Do you guys find it sad when a guy hangs around too long?
What I would have liked to see for Ronnie Coleman was for him to win 1-3 pro shows in 2008, then call it a career. That way he would have still sort of went out on top, with people wondering "Hmm...could he have been Mr. Olympia in 2008?" Truth be told, had he not bought into the belief that it was his conditioning that was the problem [when in reality, it was injuries], he could have reproduced his 2006 form, and won either the 2007 or 2008 Mr. Olympia contests. But failing to win in 2007, he could have won a lower tier show, and retired still somewhat "on top" - well, with the illusion of being on top anyway. Just as it is a bit of an illusion right now that GSP is the middleweight champion. Just like it is an illusion that I qualified for nationals in strongman - as there were a couple of good 170-lb guys from my region who did not compete.
In a nutshell - I think we all know when we win something that maybe we wouldn't have won had it not been for a certain circumstance. Even Jay Cutler winning the Mr. Olympia in 2006, knew full well that had Ronnie been at his best, he would not have won. And Jay looked damn good that year.
Relating this to Bisping - what I want for him is to be matched up with a middleweight competitor who is obviously not in his league for a spring show in his home country. He can then go out on a win, and celebrate in his hometown, relishing in the years of memories of being a top MMA athlete in the UFC, and previously the best in the world. As a future hall of famer [presumably all those who win class belts, or if not that, then those who defend class belts will go on to be entered into the UFC Hall of Fame], what more does Bisping have to prove?
GSP has sustained over 800 hits to the head over his career, and it would be my guess that since Bisping was more of a brawler than GSP, and more of an offensive fighter, that he has well over 1,000 hits to the head to his name. I hate seeing fighters destroy themselves, just as I hated to see Nasser die young.
JMO...long post, but I hope for Bisping's sake he sets up a spring fight in the UK and ends on a W. :) 8)

I respect him for fighting on short notice but it's not smart.

I thought that too - three weeks to the day? ??? How does a fighter at his level do that? Even if given the opportunity, you would think he would know better. I remember when Mariusz Pudzianowski had a fight, then another two weeks later, I was thinking "Whoa...that was too soon."
I suppose the argument against what you said would be that he was not knocked out in the GSP fight, thus he did not need a huge amount of time to recover. I don't know exactly how to respond to that, as I am unclear exactly what the UFC's medical policies are, but I would say that it was still too soon. My intuition tells me that at least. I think Bisping should find a good match-up for him, and go out on a win, in his home country as I described above.
Is there any benefit in being a punching bag for the up and coming guys? Anyone can say what they want about GSP, but he really nailed it when it came to making good career and life/health moves.

Ronnie was done after 2007 no way around that, his body deteriorated quick, he would have been an embarrassment in 2008

In another post, I listed the 2008 pro shows that Ronnie realistically could have won, based on the winners of those pro shows being bodybuilders that Ronnie beat at the 2007 Mr. Olympia contest, or who otherwise simply were not yet at Ronnie's level - even the declined level he displayed in 2007:
1. 2008 Atlantic City Pro [won by Melvin Anthony]
2. 2008 Europa Supershow [won by Toney Freeman]
3. 2008 Houston Pro Championships [won by Silvio Samuel]
4. 2008 New York Pro Championships [won by Kai Greene]
5. 2008 Tampa Pro Championships [won by Toney Freeman]
^ I'd say Ronnie should have won one or more of those contests, then called it a career, ending things on a W.

It was ok - but any fight ending in the first round is ultimately not going to be much to watch.

You don’t have to be. He took a beating but unless things have changed there is a mandatory 30 days. He fought GSP on the 4th.

Lawler vs. MacDonald 2 - I know what I will be watching next. 8)
I have the fight "Marvin Hagler vs Tommy Hearns. The Greatest Fight Ever ?" on right now. LOL, it's only the first round and I'm thinking - HOW did these two men sustain this level of head trauma? Wow. It's just one shot after another after another.
I prefer MMA to boxing though - it is a much more useful fighting style, as it essentially covers all styles. So I look forward to Lawler vs. MacDonald 2. I think I will watch their first fight first though. Rory MacDonald sort of looks like a geeky guy, being 6'0 and 170, yet he is tough as nails. Contrast that with Robbie Lawler, who looks like a tough guy.
RE: Bisping being cleared to fight so soon - could this have to do with the venue being in China? Perhaps normal UFC rules don't apply since it is outside of North America?
-
matt, I could forcibly sodomize u.... how does that fact make u feel, as a man?
-
The staredown at the end of round 4, where Rory's wearing a mask of blood and Lawler spits a huge cloud of gore at him... Incredible.

At what, wrestling? I missed out on wrestling in high school, but my friend was top three in the province [OFSAA]. He agreed to train me. With very little training, I began to lay waste to him - keep in mind we are both 170, but I was considerably stronger which carried over massively in wrestling - it helped a lot.
That said, if you are 270, of course you will lay waste to me in wrestling. You outweigh and out-roid me! Dumb phaggot. Phucking phaggot.
