Greetings,
A guy 5'8 up to 5'9 can be 200lbs.
A guy 5'9 up to 5'10 can be 207lbs.
A guy 6'1 up to 6'2 can be 240lbs
Keep in mind this is the weigh ins, onstage they'll be a couple around 3 - 5 lbs heavier. We are now imo the sweet spot for the weights. I expected the weights to increase until they reached a sweet spot. I think this is it. Robby Robinson was 5'8 205 in his prime. Arnold around 235-240 at 6'1.
I think next year we're going to see some great physiques in Classic and we'll continue to see the open diminish in popularity and Classic Physique increase. Eventually, as I stated before they even started this division, it will overtake the open in popularity.
Thoughts?
-
So 5'10 to 6'1" ...nothing? ???
-
So does this mean I could be the only one in my class? At 5'8 or will I just be grouped into "short" and if that's the case why be so specific for every single inch?
-

I gave the info I did because those are common heights for bodybuilders. The other heights are in the chart below.

Yes that could happen but the overall winner wins the pro card. You're talking NPC and their weight limits are lower. IFBB evertone competes against each other but at their weight class for their height. So of a person is over 5'8 up to 5'9, they can weigh up to 200 lbs for the weigh in. 200 lbs at 4-5 % body fat is at that height can look incredible with the right bone structure. Look at Robby Robinson, 5'8 205.
-
IFBB fucking up the class already by increasing the bodyweights.
-
Good to see Wiggs survived all the disasters that he predicted!
-
5'7 at 192 is pretty damn big and that's before carbing up or whatever days after the weigh in. So basically a guy can be 5'7 200 plus pounds on stage. They should have left it where it was.

I weighed in at 196 in the morning. For the night show (seen here) I was about 203. I’m 5’7

WIGGS! GTF back in here regularly!
As to your post - yes, you are spot on. I think those weights are the ideal ones, although if they change significantly from weigh-ins, I would retract that. But yes, those weights are very close to what we saw in the seventies and into the eighties.
That said, wasn't Franco Columbu 190-lb at 5'4? Or a bit lighter? But hey - can't be exact for every height. I like that table. :)
-
IFBB = Metric system ;)

Yup as weights go up slowly the purpose of the entire division will be lost

LOL at being the only competitor @ 5'-8" in a bodybuilding show.

It´s NOT IFBB, It´s PRO LEAGUE and NPC
In IFBB the measurements are in METERS (Centimeters in this case)
;D

Missed it..my bad...seems like its all about an inch increment to each category.
-

this...they just can't leave well enough alone can they??? Soon it will merge into regular open class bodybuilding IFBB go fuck yourself already!!!
-
How much upward creep from prior (roughly) and how much difference NPC to pro status (roughly)? I see the point that they could be defeating their purpose by letting them creep up. But one thing that is successful is that most of the younger competitors are switching to Classic. Just looked at 2017 Jr. Nationals photos and surprisingly few posing trunked bodybuilders (and weak) compared to Classic guys (better physiques).
-
I agree, they are screwing it up. The IFBB just can't help themselves. There are too many divisions now anyways.
-
I agree with you all about it defeating the purpose if the get bigger. I think this is the biggest they should get. They won't keep upping the weight. I think this is perfect.
-
Thread title/subject is not worthy of an exclamation point.

That just one Grape Apes opinion.

What do you mean an inch increment? How much pound increment per category compared to prior? How much pound increment compared to NPC amateur?
-
The schmoes will find a way to ruin this. Their insane, fetish-like desire for caricature physiques will destroy any chance for a return to normalcy. Schmoes are the very definition of Size Queens in every way.

Thanks for posting this, ive been waiting for them to announce the new weight classes.

Will the increased size help them in a bout with Tyson?

This is an attempt to alleviate bloated mass monsters and get back to asthetics.
Maybe make bodybuilding more popular to the general public again.

They don't need rules or new divisions though. All they need to do is make changes to the judging criteria such as marking down distended abdomens or marking down a competitor for excessive body weight. The general idea in bodybuilding should be keeping the physiques aesthetic and proportionate. Lean and hard with good definition, but not shredded and near death dehydrated. This is just a matter of the judging.

then why are they increasing the body weights of the competitors?
They are doing exactly the opposite..

They review board team should have made this chart increase for the NPC as well.
The NPC definitely needs weight limit increases in classic physique.

No it definitely does not.
-
There is no need for weight limits ,all they have to do is change the judge criteria ( penalize huge guts ,penalize over-sized body parts ,small calves, lack of proportions....)a classic physique have nothing to do with numbers ,this just another way for the NPC/IFBB to make more money
This is not a classic physique ,too heavy

Yes, and gyno too. :-\ At least in 1981. Arms may have been 17", but very short. Franco was great, conditioning-wise, and VERY strong, but not without fault. He is still alive now, and I believe he is over 70 - may even be 75. I can't recall his birth year. So hey.

Can't be said enough. Funny, he left as soon as I came back. Sucked. :-\. In hindsight, the two may have been related. ;D

According to AJ he looked like a Mr. Potatoe Head doll
Huge torso with tiny arms and legs

at his best he was 215 onstage at the 93 Arnold
Thats within the limit of the new class, not too big at all.

Is this a better option than just judging based on true aesthetics? It seems like the easiest way to get competitors to adhere to the classic look would just be to mark them down for bloated midsections, lack of taper, asymmetry, etc.

The way they are doing it is more scientific and controllable. The way you are suggesting you’d have to wholesale change who the judges are. In general, people who are motivated enough to endure being a judge are very much into sheer size (district officials, prior competitors, gym owners, individuals with schmoe tendencies of one kind or another, etc., etc.)

You wouldn't have to change who the judges are, just the judging criteria. You already have other divisions with different judging criteria. And you already have guys excited about moving out of those divisions because they hated the development ceiling. I mean, I do get what you're saying about the way I suggested being subjective, but the open class would look completely different within 2 years if judges just marked competitors down for distended stomachs.

A classic aesthetic physique has nothing to do with science or numbers ,either you have it or you don't , many of these ''classic IFBB Pros '' don't have classic physiques, but they meet the height weight requirements.

agreed mate, there has only ever been one Bob Paris, he was the epitome of the male physique.
Never equalled.
No amount of weightlifting will create another unless the base is there, thats given at birth, it cant be attained through training alone.

i was lucky to be born that way, I just got a bit bigger.
Oh, and whatever people say about people not training for proportion, I always have, my legs overshadowed my upper boy, i trained to make them balance.

I was always obsessed with proportion/balance (not size ) ,that's why I train my triceps once a month and my biceps twice a week , calves 3 times a week, quads once a week .............. .
I'm a firm believer that while you can't change your muscle bellies , insertions points ........etc , you still can make your body proportionate
I don't know how much these guys weight but all of them have classic physique , why ? because the judging criteria was different

Agreed, and it's weird that the amateur CF have lower weight limits than the pro CF.

Be queer and chgaye
Why don't you 2 queers just get a room ffs

Will the increased size help them in a bout with Tyson?
YES. Especially if they have bigger biceps.

shit sucks for me. i am around 6'3'' and considered "thin" for this class
i am working on building an epic set of wheels/arms/small waist/wide back with some great posing.
i will never be near the max weight for my class

Not really, but it screams out, “we know you’re going to juice more when you are in the process of turning pro, and that’s perfectly OK and we will do our judging accordingly.”
