Current laptop is about 6 years old so thought I would upgrade to a new one with this paypal credit I haven't used in a couple of years. Browsed eBay and WOW... the prices have fallen. 8g RAM 1T SSD, etc.. for under $350.00 New.
Highly doubt you can use it for gaming (which I don't anyway) or for running graphic intense programs (animation, etc..) but the only thing I use my current one for is taking it on long plane rides when I am flying to Europe or Asia and using Lightroom for my photography files.
BB related - and to log into GetBig and read what the thong worshipping minions are whining about.

My parents paid ~$350 for a laptop back in 2014 and it only had 2g ram. Thing couldn't even play Brutal DooM or Counterstrike 1.6 smoothly.

I don't understand how 5 years ago, 4gb ram was plenty to run photoshop and games etc and now you need minimum 60 to do anything.

LOL! Watch this be my luck. I have 4 gigs in the old laptop and it is fine.
I just upgraded my Dell from 6 gigs to 16 gigs two months ago. Yeah... that was weird but they loaded it when I bought it a couple years ago with a 2 gig and 4 gig set up. To be honest, I don't see a difference at all. The memory was cheap. $189 for two sticks 8 gig each. Would have been a little cheaper if I was doing it with a tower, but this was one of those All-In-Ones where it basically is a big monitor with the components mounted inside. They only use laptop memory for these types.

Just looked at laptops online with BestBuy.... the prices there are NOT all that great. Not sure how they can sell anything at those prices.

These laptops are chocked FULL of goddamned bloatware bullshit that will slow down the software that you do want.

i think they've gone up over the last few years, anything cheap they try to fk you by putting a stupidly small hard drive with less storage than a mid range sd card.

The Alienware stuff costs more, but you can easily upgrade to the latest and greatest hardware that becomes available. If you are a hardcore gamer or into VR, this is the way to go.

You are correct. It is HDD drive. I just grabbed the links from the first two that popped up. But I did see some with SSD. Not sure which people prefer nowdays.

I only use laptops for work, administration and storage. For any other task or activity I find them really clunky and cumbersome compared to smartphones or tablets.

Back around '95 or so I spent $5k on a top of class laptop for work.

yeah and they are super slow because the hardware hasn't kept up with the software requirements.
and like someone mentioned the bloat of additional useless apps.

Never the less, I went with a laptop off eBay that I still have today and it is just as fast and blazing as it was 8 years ago when I got it. I can't remember the name of the shop that I bought it from but it was one of those "custom built" rigs that I was skeptical about. But it was $475 and I figured at the worst if it went to shit, I would just use that as a sign to start a new hobby of building my own machine from scratch. But it has been amazing. The shop had great service. Took about 2 weeks for me to receive it from the day I paid and they did not put any add on software or bloatware or games or crap like that on it.
Very happy.
