The regiment lost a total of 217 men during service; 2 officers and 70 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, 1 officer and 144 enlisted men died of disease.[/b]

Of course....disease was the biggest killer in the Civil War as well as every other war prior to World War 2.  Even if you got shot in the leg, infection would set in and kill you.  Disease ran rampant, unsanitary surgeon tents, etc.
