they all did people under estimate the will to survive in such situations plus it is only about a 45 minute swim I believe

water to cold tides move to fast would sweep you out to sea no matter how good a swimmer you are they had a family friend picked them up in a small boat

A good friend of mine was one of nany swimmers who swam across the bay beneath the Golden Gate.

And Jack LaLanne once did it (maybe more than once) while pulling a small boat across filled with people.
