Quote
I’m sad to announce because of health reasons I will be stepping down from the open class. I found out my second uncles grandfathers cousin had a bad heart. So just not willing to take the risk, sorry. But I’m actually not going to move down to Classic and instead, just go straight down to Men’s Physique. I’d like to apologize to Chris Aceto, friends, family, sponsors and everyone who invested in me, sacrificed their life and time for me to reach my dream of being Mr.Olympia one day. Just for me to be like “Just kidding”, It’s actually not that important to me after-all. So even tho I’m surrounded by perfect examples of great pros, in perfect health, and great representations of the word “longevity” right in my face, I’m still ignorantly calling the sport unhealthy. I didn’t win the Mr.Olympia my rookie year😤😤 so I don’t like that ,and don’t want to push my body anymore. #3DayWeekendWarrior #NoHeart #NoGuts #NoBalls

Regan Grimes and Cody Montgomery both recently changed classes from open to classic. Both are (were?) friends of his.

Don’t get it. Is this for real or tongue in cheek? Is he announcing a true shift in categories or trolling?

It's a sarcastic caption. He's making fun of the young open competitors who've moved to classic. Regan Grimes, in particular, seemed to make a big deal about it being a health-related move.

The Instagram commenters are taking it seriously though. Are they idiots or just playing along with his sarcasm? I read it as sarcasm but then I read the comments and got confused???

Sergio jr seems like an asshole.why does he care what some other bodybuilder does? The guy is smart to move down to classic or physique as not everyone wants to risk their life for this stupid sport.

"...second uncles grandfathers cousin..."

What is a 'second uncle?'  And the uncle's grandfather's cousin?  That's a FAR stretch from immediate family.

Maybe he can't financially afford to be a pro bodybuilder.  When he went to the New York Pro last year he said he went on a one-way airline ticket because he couldn't afford a return ticket.  Fortunately he then won the show.

You'd think that with him being a homosexual, his "sarcasm" would be a little bit better.

I couldnt tell is he was serious or.not.

Yeah so now the rumors are Classic guys run the same amount of gear as open guys they just don't have as good genetics for size and don't eat as much food. This is 100% absolute bullshit put out by open class drug monsters that feel threatened.

Useless debate, truth is somewhere in between. Hard to argue over a matter of degrees, but there is no debating that less body weight on the competitors generally means a somewhat reduction in supplementation as well as calories, which will have some level of health benefit.

But does it really? When you look at guys who end up having presumptively bodybuilding related health problems, it's not exclusively mass monsters.  Especially when you go back to the 90s, where it seemed like conditioning was at the root of more of these problems. If you are competing in a class where there is a limit on how much size you can carry, then it's not a stretch to assume you are going to find other directions to push the envelope.

Yeah, I see your point like Munzer or that ZZZZ dude or whatever his name was. Just the same, just about any physician will tell you that enlarging, enlarging, enlarging (internal organs included) is not a healthy venture. Like the skinny rats living longer than the fattier rats. I know it’s muscle, not fat. Just the same, it’s calorie throughput and the strain of sheer size.

Why? If you can afford 6g a week why wouldn't you use it? The side effects are overblown. Watch you bp and you're fine. Yoyo your bodyweight 50lbs 1-2x a year isn't something most are gonna do past 40yrs old anyway.

Yeah, I'm not really debating that.  But in practical terms, pure muscle size doesn't seem to be the main culprit. I could be wrong, ofc. I don't follow bodybuilding deaths that closely, but I'm thinking back and seem to remember quite a few physique/classic style physiques dying or having health issues. Then you have a shit ton of wrestlers who've died from heart conditions and their physiques would probably be considered closer to classic or physique. I know there are extenuating circumstances a lot of the time, but it just goes to show that just because someone doesn't appear to have their foot all the way on the gas isn't really an indicator of their health.

New Update!

UPDATE🔉🔊 Clearly I need to clarify my last post. Well I am not moving to men’s physique. I am a bodybuilder and will always be one. I love this sport more than anything in my life. It’s because of this sport that I am even here walking and breathing. My parents met because of this sport. A lot of people ask me why I hit the Victory Pose. To be compared to my dad? Trying to be a second coming? I am not my father and I never will be. I hit that pose because it’s a sign of proof that our sport is living on through generations. If you Like me or not, I am walking proof that this sport is healthy. Don’t use a few bad apples in over 60 years of competitions to prove a point that this is unhealthier than any other sport. Every time I do a show and hit the #Victory,I’m a contradiction to every negative statement or accusation to my class. But Hey, It’s not for everyone tho. This is the greatest sport but its also the hardest as well. I would never call out anyone who wants to change positions in it. It’s only when you state the only reason you are is because of the health risks in my category. And on top of it say “The Classic Division is the future of bodybuilding” Now you have offended every past pro before me including my father that helped start all this. I actually highly respect the REAL classic division Competitors not the “weekend warriors” who pretend to live this life we do. The classic physique division is not the same muscle mass as the golden era. I’m sorry you have your info wrong. My father was 5’9 and weighed 250lbs he would have to lose 55lbs!!!! To achieve greatness takes time. When you run a sprint in this, is when it becomes “unhealthy” The current top pros will retire eventually. Maybe not Dexter, he will prob compete against my son lol but then it will be time for the next generation of this sport. You can be a part of it and choose how you want it portrayed by leading by example. I care about the future of this sport. And I’ll defend it till I die. I’m going to be that staple for change not just whine about things I have the tools to change. But no matter what open Bodybuilding in IFBB Pro league will live on forever. #MyBlock #Lineage

His dad prolly didnt want him to risk his health becouse he knew the the amount of "supps" the current pros are forced to take.
Since the powers that be are pushing the bigger is better agenda.
Also Sergio knew that his son will never come close to him.
The genetics seems to water down.
I can relate somewhat as my dad was a total genetic freak for strength.
I never got the same strength as my dad had.
The truth somethimes hurt.  ;D

His genetics are watered down because of his mother. She's not Hebrew. It is what it is.

Good point. He looks like he would make an alright pro, but he will get more of a push because of who he is than because of his physique. Sad but true.

His genetics from mother’s side are fine. Very solid physique. If I am not mistaken, she was on the bodybuilding stage herself a few times and that was before there was such a thing as Figure. Even if I am mistaken about that fact, that girl has big muscles. Also, stood up very forcefully against her huge husband as you may recall.

New Update! From Regan Grimes' instagram account:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bed_v8OBPU_/?hl=en&taken-by=regangbodybuilding

Despite what you have been told or have heard last year was a successful year for me in terms of competing. I had no expectations of even placing in my first year on the pro stage and the fact I placed in all three shows was a VICTORY in itself. People will talk; people will think they know you and your story. People will assume they are in your head and know how you think. I've come to learn that when people constantly talk about you in negative light they themselves are usually dealing with things and therefore projecting or they have feelings of jealousy and resentment. At the end of the day the only person who knows your truth is you, and that’s all that matters. #RgArmy @teamgrimes.ca
