Title: Arnold Schwarzenegger Old Footage Demonstrating Weider Products
Post by: SomeKindofMonster on February 04, 2018, 07:21:20 AM
I looked over youtube & couldn't find this and it was on
an old flash drive so I'm not sure where it's from.
Anything with Arnold is something I usually want to see.
It had no sound so I put Arnold talking about when he used to do seminars.
It's old & grainy but interesting.
Thx for any views/subs! KC

Weider didn't bring him to the US and pay him for nothing.

Arnold's commentary about the mind leading the way is true, but he wouldn't be the man he was without drugs.  Hitting the DNA lottery in chest and biceps certainly helped him.  A lot of people workout very hard and eat right, but without drugs, you'll never attain anywhere near the physique he did.

Here's what I wrote to quite a few who were complaining about
Levrone being on steroids during the workout video.
My stance on steroids is individual freedom. A person ought to do with their body what they want unless it hurts someone else. Schwarzenegger would have never been a movie star or Governor without them. Bodybuilding was his intro to the movies & fame to politics.
Plus I advised waiting until you are 21 or over to take advantage of your own
very high test levels while your growing & you can make a more mature decision.

Arnold had three things going for him. An unrelenting drive to the the best at something. Freakishly superior genetics above all others at the time. A very strong Germanic mind to do whatever it takes no matter what. He also came along at the right time. The timing of an Arnold era was critical. He was the first mass monster with full round muscle bellies with amazing separation and definition , when he flexed everything exploded larger than life. His charisma was and is overpowering for most, he stood out. He made bodybuilding popular.
Joe Weider got a hold of Arnold at the right time. He was able to take his sluggish empire from a stalemate and make it skyrocket. Pumping Iron ushered Arnold into the mainstream market and by the end of the action hero starved 70's the public was more than ready for a real life comic book character to hit the movie screen with an almost un pronouncable name and accent. He soared and went places he only dreamed of.
When listening to Arnold give a motivational speech I can't help but get motivated myself. The reality however is that Arnold is and was a one of a kind human. Like Elvis, Mohammad Ali, Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson and others. There can only be one. To take his advice and motivation literally is only going to make one depressed when they realize they are not him. One can certainly use his advise to become better for sure. Just don't expect to do what he did.
Bill Burr said it best.  ........"Arnold is a great man.........can you imagine going to Austria, learning their language, becoming their sports champion, marrying into their royalty, becoming their movie star then taking a very high level position in their government!!!!!........who does that!!......Arnold did.......He has been knocking it out of the park for over four decades!!!!"

Great footage.... it was 1972 like someone said , People automatically assume is prior Arnold winning the O simply because he’s presented as Mr Universe and not MrO.  Truth is that to this day if you want to sell something to mainstream audiences you better go with mr.Universe champ then mr Olympia.

Arnold is the face of bodybuilding. No one before and no one after has made a great difference. Ask anyone outside of the sport who Phil Heath, Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates , etc is and they will give you a blank stare. Bodybuilding is Arnold and to a lesser degree, Lou Ferrigno. That’s it.

Yea, I had some one that commented I think it had that affect on. I liked Bill Phillip's
philosophy of being the best you that you can be; with whatever genetics
you have & don't compare yourselves to others especially when it comes to
someone like Arnold. I agree with everything you said but I remember Dave Palumbo
interviewing a shy Kai Greene riding up to his apartment in his piss smelling elevator.
Now, he seems to feel much more comfortable in his skin & exhibits a certain
amount of charisma. Arnold was probably praised on a daily basis & it can give you
an extreme amount of confidence. He is a rare person who came around at the
right time. I'm glad people think of Arnold when they think of bodybuilding.
I enjoy watching the modern extreme but Arnold much more embodies the
original ideal than any current top guys.

Arnold’s success is a perfect storm of ambition, drugs, timing, connections, charisma, and genetics.

Remove even one of these and he’d not have amounted to anything near what he has.

One cannot deny his impact or the quality of his physique as a competitive bodybuilding entity.

(P.S. On a side note, viewing any footage from his prime just reinforces how ridiculous it is to suggest the man was ever capable of pressing anything remotely close to 500 pounds. Arnold was blessed with the genetics to develop bulbous biceps and pectorals, but his frame, while proportioned and symmetrical, is thin and slight. His is not a body designed for brutish strength. And despite his talk about 500-pound squats, the few times he DID have such poundage across his back, the performance was less than dominating and “strong”. Shallow, severe forward lean and ugly.)
