Cool - does he mention his pec tear? I notice in a lot of your interviews they sort of shy away about talking about the end of their careers and how it happened. Mike Quinn never even mentioned that late '90s NOC show he did, acted like '94 NOC was his last.

No, he didn't mention that. We just talked about his career competing in Europe and the NABBA and WABBA organization then competing in the IFBB in the '80's. He also talked about helping Shawn Ray and Vince Taylor and his mental aspect to training. That was really interesting. He applied the same principles to his sons, all of whom have a good chance of being inducted into the NFL.

It's crazy how big bodybuilding was in Europe in the early 1980's.

His sons are Egyptian Gods. The NFL is beneath them.

on the hbo special he talked about how his sons were groomed from before birth to be world class wide receivers [no not that kind.no homo] he picked the woman he thought would bear him the best genetic makeup to give him star athlete sons.

One of the most interesting parts of the interview I did with him was his mental approach to training and competition. He talked about a girl he worked with who was competing in the Ms. Galaxy competition where she had to do an obstacle course. She called him up crying that she was going to lose the contest because her time running the course wasn't good enough. He asked her what time she needed to get to win the obstacle course contest and she told him so he said, "Go to a place where you can be by yourself and repeat that time to yourself over and over again for 15 min". She did it and ran the course and got that exact time.

completely cringe worthy when people make this statement.  ball and brown just followed the williams (serena and venus) and woods' (tiger) blue print.  all i can see is, he married a woman round 6'0 to his 6'2 to increase the odds they'd all be over 6'2+ which is optimal for WRs.  maybe you could add she had long limbs  ::) . other than that, it's like Ray saying he married Kristy b.c it would insure Asia could dance, just cringe worthy!

So if she had gone and repeated over and over that she could fly that would have worked as well?

Basically John Brown picked the woman that he thought was superior to him aka Color Struck. And then came up with that ignorance. And the naming of them after Egyptian Gods and changed their name to St. Brown. He's trying to make them more than what they are, and not allowing them to be their own selves.
Ever notice that a lot of the female tennis players have issues with their fathers, who were the ones that pushed them?

He couldn’t win the tall class Southern California or Mr America
His placing in the IFBB seem very fair

Probably not because humans can't fly but it worked good for running the obstacle course

There is a reason for the boasting. Aside from the Mr. Universe, when he went head to head against the top guys, how did he do? Ronnie, Dorian, Haney, etc and the top who competed against them don't need to be boastful.

Natural O, thanks for posting another excellent interview.  The physique of John Brown has always reminded me the 1952 AAU Mr. California winner Bob Shealey.  He was an accomplished competitive bodybuilder on the national level throughout the 1950's.  Unfortunately, he was lost in the AAU wilderness with other outstanding bodybuilders of color such as George Paine, Arthur Harris, and Melvin Welles.  John Brown, really awesome physique and tremendous, memorable poser.
