I think he lived because Garret was his friend, probably faked the death and spent the rest of his years hoping that one day his son would post on getbig once the internet was invented

Billy was never given a fair shake by the press. Much like we see in modern times.

He was just a tough kid and a survivor put into a very violent and difficult situation with everything going down in that part of New Mexico at the time.

If you read the testimonies of people living in that area at that time, nobody has anything bad to say about the guy. Most say he was a good kid just fighting to stay alive.
