Because China is stealing intellectual property rights then producing the technology themselves and then using those products to compete with the US without any restrictions. While US and Western companies are losing out.

All car manufacturers who sell in China are mandated to partner with a Chinese company. Mandated, if they want to sell cars in China. And they don't own the factory.

Yup, partnerships are mandated...and by partnerships the Chinese really mean a one sided relationship where they steal the foreign partners tech and IPs and in the near future they will use that to sell (dump) Chinese cars in the foreign markets.

Ever call up a US company to get a technical question answered about their product? Sooner or later they admit "We don't know 'cause we don't make 'em. We just sell 'em." But I won't wax on about the Race To The Bottom and the idiocy of the American consumer and their river of plastic crap.
A vertically integrated economy is essential for a nation's health. Once you have that you can choose to trade and do so without a gun to your head. Imo the US is right on the brink in terms of losing foundational manufacturing once and for all. Optimistic talk about how we're a tech society now and all we have to do is be techy is a bunch of horseshit. Programming Iphone apps is dandy but it's a cherry on top. If you don't have the sundae then what good is it? Retain your ability to make the entire item. Once that's gone, and you really need someone else to make things, they're going to steal you blind and fuck you senseless with a billion little Chinese peckers.
I'm with The Donald on this one. He's a tard but you don't need an agriculturalist to know which way the potato rolls.

I don't understand how China thinks they somehow deserve special treatment and deals which are mostly one-sided in their favour.
US companies cannot even own properties in China, but the Chinese can in USA? They also need 50 % Chinese partners in the China, while the Chinese in the US don't. And then there's the massive difference in tariffs, all favouring China and that's excluding often not paying for any intellectual property rights.

I think that the key is that there is a massive middle class to sell cars, trucks, electronics to. And Western companies want in on that. So, western greed pushes them to make these one sided deals. The Chinese government, which backs all these deals, knows that the Western companies want in on a piece of the pie, so they use Western greed against them, but also trying to promote their own home grown companies, which the Chinese buying public views as inferior.

1. Who cares if the Government is shut down for a week or two. It would have almost no impact on anything. He should have vetoed and shut the mother fucker down until there is a resolution.
2. This wasn’t the Dems fault, although Trump should have vetoed, this bill was straight on Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnel. McConnel went AWOL for comment on this.
3. Trump is right by National Defense ($700bil allocated for defense) this is a good thing.
