Title: '95 Masters Olympia
Post by: Nether Animal on April 25, 2018, 09:56:25 AM
Sonny, Robby, even Charles Glass. Very high standard for the Masters during this period.

Patrick Nicholls came in huge and he was pissed off that he didn’t get at least 2nd place.

Yeah he looked good. Muscletime is acting screwy right now so I can't get any good pics, only shitty blurry cached thumbnails.

Nicholls acknowledged that he had the huge upper body, and that Sonny had the huge lower body. Nichols was ok with whatever the judges chose. He knew that it was a judgement call based on the look that they wanted that year. So Nicholls was gonna be happy with 1st or 2nd.

But Nicholls was not ok with Robby beating him.

Charles Glass had the better chest. Nicholls resided in Sweden or Norway, correct?

Boyer Coe placed close to last or next to last in that show, after having been third the year before.

Coes shape was just a tad off from the previous year but the competition had improved immensely. Casey did those shows for fun almost like an exhibition. I remember reading somewhere he said he didn't take it seriously and didn't prep very long and it showed. i thought the masters shouldve been a little more light hearted. something for the old guys to come on stage for old times sake. but when Sonny and Vince started entering that contest it was like wtf  these guys could do well in the open.

Nichols was from Barbados so makes sense that he would have been in England.

Sonny and Vince competed in the open at the same time as the Masters. In 1995, Vince came in 5th place at the Mr. O and Sonny came in 13th.

maybe its just my age, but i think with the amount of interest that Levrones comeback generated that a masters over 40s and over 50s and even 60s would be a good addition to both the arnold and the olympia weekends. The prize money would not have to be high, the top guys could still make good money marketing themselves to the older generation of guys. Would be good to see vince taylor against Kevin and Flex again. See Strydom comeback as well, only downside would be I guess guys like Flex doing what he did when he was younger pushing the envelope too far, shame as guys like Taylor Milos Stardom etc, its good to see guys still living a balanced bodybuilding lifestyle in the later years.

While we’re at it, let’s get Nasser and Mattarazzo and DeMayo back up on stage too.

If they did an over 50 who could compete? You have Levrone, Wheeler. Guys like Ray, Dillett, Dennis James and maybe Cormier? Over 60? Not sure who's still lifting to be considered competitive? Over 70 you have Robby Robinson.

There are a few sleepers out there who might be coaxed back in and look decent or half way decent for old time sake (not that they would necessarily be interested or able to):
Tony Pearson
Bill Grant
Leon Brown
Mike Quinn
Gary Strydom
Darrem Charles
Lee Labrada

Others?

I like Nassers story how Milos would just use Sonny for money. Sonny was very very good and its very sad he died so young...
