Just discovered this photo....and it made me wonder if this is the greatest front double biceps shot I have ever seen. Just pure good ole bodybuilding. Damn....
-
There was a crazy shot of him doing the front double biceps in the gym, too lazy to find it. Very underrated bodybuilder, another uncrowned Mr. O.

Didn't he win the "tall" Mr Olympia a few times? Either way, if it isn't the best, it's up there for sure.
-
Hard to argue against it seeing that shot.

1998 Ronnie smokes that ameteur on every single pose

Very good arms. Also good back. But the rest of him was not up to par. Even himself admitted he never had any legs...

Over 200 pound class in '77 and '78

Robby was being too hard on himself. His legs matched his upper body and the legs of the day. Robby was the Chris Cormier of the golden era.

That third pic was from when Robby guest posed at the 1977 AAU Mr. America in Santa Monica, California. He was HUGE there. I got into bodybuilding in 1977 and every month in Muscle Builder magazine, Robby looked like he was getting bigger and harder. I thought he was going to be an easy winner at the Mr. Olympia that year.

definitely one of the best

It's a real picture. I scanned that picture from Joe Weider's Mr Olympia book and posted on forum last year

Robinson whooping ass on both Christian and Haney here. Robbie is one of the all time greats. Superb arms too. I think the Oak has him in the arms race but Arnold had everybody where that was concerned.
Haney sucks here. But then he should not have won 8 Olympias at all. Maybe 5 max. I can hear his royal hebroness whining now...

How can nobody manage to achieve this look anymore?

Just shows you what an 18 inch arm can look like
Conditioned 18 inches of course not some soft bloofy shit
-
How can nobody manage to achieve this look anymore?
Lower quality drugs and heavier reliance on them over hard work.
-
:)
Top photo is best ever, IMO.

Robby's back.

I've always thought Robby had the best FDB ever.

Any idea of his bodyweight for that guest pose?

He was also 41 years old there at the 1987 Mr. O. Looked great. So did Bertil Fox actually, even though he came in too light at 215 pounds.
-
how tall was robby?
loving this dude after this thread.

Robby's back.
Damn, his upper back reminds me of Flex Wheelers from 1993 when he had cross striations.

He claimed to be 5'9", but I've read 5'8" a lot and even as low as 5'7". As a comparison to 6'0" Ken Waller, he looked to be at least 5'8" if not 5'9" in his younger days. 5'7" seems to low for his prime height.
-

Well there you have it. I said 5'8"-5'9" and I was right. Interesting to note that the one measurement that's not included there are his biceps and according to an early 1980's Muscle and Fitness article, they measured 20.5".
His bodyweight was 206-208 pounds in the late 70's/early 80's, 215 pounds in the late 80's and 230-235 pounds during the 1990's Masters competitions.
-
I stood next to Robby at the Night of the Champions contest. He was wearing a track warm up suit. He looked about 5'8" my height and he looked small to me. Maybe 210 lbs max. The night of the show on stage it was clear he was the winner. Hard dense ripped muscle with that tiny waist with huge arms.
These 265lbs guys of today never remotely looked as good as he did. He had hard looking muscle and not the bloated soft looking muscles of today. Those guys trained like animals back then. Look at the videos of today's guys training with the exception of few like Yates, Shawn Ray and Coleman. It looks like today's champs are not even breaking a sweat working out.

Funny you say today's guys. Yates, Shawn Ray and Coleman started competing around 30 years ago. Imo, the 90's guys were in a league of their own. That was the END of the progression of bodybuilding.

Everybody forgets John "Tank" Sherman. There is an gen better FDB shot of him, when he won his pro card at the 92 USAs.

The pic says '74 but I think it's really '73. Arnold's super cut there and that's what he looked like in '73.

I am happy that this thread got a lot of interest and replies. Awesome!!!!
But still havent seen any other front double bicep shots as great as Robbys on this day. Hell....not even Robby on other days is as good as he was on this day in this photoshoot.

I took a picture with Robby at the 2001 Mr. Olympia Expo. I was 38 here and Robby was 55 (or "double nickel" which is what he said) and his arms blow me away. Robby is one of the best bodybuilders ever!

Absolutely a Top-10 all time bodybuilder. No weaknesses. Perfect height for bodybuilding. Awesome V-tapper. Small joints. Never out of shape. Incredible "pop" when he flexed.
Weider never wanted to push him. Robby wasn't very smart. He was NOT lazy IMO but just not aggressive enough. Could have easily been a 5x Open class Mr. Olympia winner 1977-1983.

Robby always had that blank stare. I always thought it had something to do with his experience in Vietnam.

Lee Haney said that RR was one of the few who scared him.

Lee Haney said that RR was one of the few who scared him.
It means that Haney was easy to be scared. Also scared him.. Oliva with his return in 1984, Beckles in 1985, Benaziza in 1989, Labrada in 1990 and Yates in 1991. ;D

My man, you have good memory!!! :D I recall Lee's comments about all except Benaziza.

Fantastic
Right up there with the very best.

Lower quality drugs and heavier reliance on them over hard work.
Very much so
Plus the insulin & GH
Lots have forgot how to diet properly
Now they're always looking for a short cut to avoid
hard quality training

Still looking great at almost 72 years old:

That's crazy

I bought a copy of his book awhile ago, an interesting read although he really downplays the role of steroids. He has incredible genetics but 20” arms naturally and lean at that height aren’t based in reality.

The best he ever looked. Too bad he never looked like that on stage (to win his Pro card).

maybe if he had paid for them as opposed to stolen them he would give them more credit

that's surprising. I mean I know hes 72 and all but I thought he looked alot better than that.

First time I ever saw Robby with his stomach hanging out.
It's a guest posing, and he's 72. Most current pros have bigger gut overhang on contest day.
-
Pictures don't do Robby justice. I saw him at the 79 Florida Pro Cup that he got 2nd to Mentzer. He should have won. He was a statue carved out of black marble.
