I gotta say....Dennis had a hell of a build on him. Crazy wide shoulders....and really...no weak bodyparts at all. Awesome deep symmetric abs...huge calves...etc. Only weakness was a very wide waist-hip structure. Dennis was always in condition onstage and had the height too. But Itruly believe that his waist structure pretty much killed his higher placings in shows. What say you?

I call BS on his height. Wikipedia claims he was 6'-1.5" and he was a few inches shorter than Arnold. And we know Arnold's height was also exaggerated! Dennis must have been around 5'-9" I would guess. Hardly tall.

Good build great abs
Yes amazing abs. He really improved and added a lot of detail in his later years as a BB.
-
Dennis's weak point was his back. He looked great from the front with his wide shoulders and great abs but when he turned around, he lost points. I saw him compete about 4 times in Columbus, Ohio and he was easily 6 feet tall.

I met Dennis many times in the 90's. While he was no longer in any sort of condition...he was a solid 6 feet tall. I am a legit 6 feet tall. Arnold is 6 feet tall these days. Had been around Arnold in person MANY times in the 90's in World Gym. And Arnold was a bit taller than me...while he was wearing his VANS skater flat sneakers in gym. No bullshit coming out of my mouth here

Agree with you totally. Seemed to have good back size, but not much rear double bicep back detail. Thanks for that share.

I saw Dennis Tinnerino compete in one of the Night of the Champions contests in NYC. He had a very vocal family and friend group near the front. One relative maybe an uncle was drunk and kept yelling nonsense and I could tell it was getting to Dennis on stage. At the end of the contest he was walking with family and he looked pissed.
Dennis also Olympic lifted for AAU athletic points when bodybuilders had to prove they weren't cosmetic athletes.
A lot of talk of how he was in the mafia too but found God in Prison.

I have also seen Arnold in person and he was nowhere near 6'-1" tall I can tell you that much. My guess was around 5'-11". Perhaps he was over 6' in his younger years. Compare the heights of Dennis and Arnold in these B&W pics I posted. They are both barefoot. Dennis' eyes line up roughly with Arnold's mouth. So that means he was about 3" or a little more shorter than Arnold. The pictures don't lie. I would put Dennis at 5'-9" or 5'-10" max at his peak. No way in hell was he over 6' or even 6' for that matter. Unless Arnold was 6'-3" - 6'-4" lol!

Wasn't Arnie 6'2" back in the day?
He is not that anymore.

Getbig is obsessed with the heights of bodybuilders. ;D
-
Here's the contest program from the 1968 NABBA Mr. Universe when Arnold was 21 years old. They measured each competitor because the contest was held in height classes and they have Arnold measured at 6'2"
-
And Tinerino is measured at six feet and 1/2"

Lol at 18:10. Was Dennis Tinnerino the first bodybuilder to have a manager (other than uncle joe)?
“The pen is mightier than the muscle in this particular occassion.” - Kenny the manager

haha I watched that video and always found Kenny the manager to be quite a mysterious figure. His assessment is true though the Penis is mightier than the muscle. on a different note I always thought Dennis had a very underrated physique he was in as good of shape as anyone else at the 80 Olympia , certainly as good as Mentzer, Zane and Dickerson. His build always looked a a little more authentic, if you will, like he probably built a better foundation before stepping on the gas.

seems like steroids dont make you live longer.

I liked his idea of a cheat meal compared to Tom Platz' in the Comeback video. Big pizza and an ice cream soder.

Depends of course who measured him. From the photos it appears Arnold is more than 1.5 - 2" taller than him. Measure the distance from the center of your eye to the center of your mouth. What do you get? Must be close to 3".

:)
Good pose but shitty posing trunks. Looks gay. Should have gone with Arnold's trunk style.

John, wanted to mention I finished your book and really enjoyed it, and my buddy DMass sent me the Podcast you did with him, good stuff. Samson (his dog) even makes an appearance at the 32:00 minute mark. We go to his house often to hang with Dave, TMass (his wife) and Samson. (And TMass's Dad "Red")...

Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed the book. It's selling on Amazon.com if anyone wants to get a copy. I'm glad I had the chance to interview Dave. It amazes me that he was competing in the IFBB Mr. America contest at only 15 years old. That's great he thought ahead to bring his camera and get those backstage shots of all the top bodybuilders in the show - http://bodybuildinglegendsshow.com/photos/. I'm going to have Dave's second part of the interview where he talks about the 1966 Mr. Olympia on the Bodybuilding Legends Podcast this weekend.

Yeah, last time there he brought the box of photos out, we went thru them, good stuff. He normally rides with us (wife and I) when we go to the yearly AOBS dinner. Great people / family...

The most disturbing thing about this guy is that he went to prison for being a g4p pimp!
