Seems like a nicely balanced routine, and might avoid set overload which I do like an idiot. When I get off my ass, stop coding, and train. Will steal, thank you. Seems to be working for you, back and form is on point.

I'm having a surprising strength spurt but I'm gaining fat weight too.  I have to drop about 15lbs and it's really tough. I have no discipline with diet but I have plenty of discipline with working out. In my younger years I could out work any bad diet. That's not working now.

I'm the same way my wife is pregnant right now I'm eating in a huge surplus and lifting hard. I'm the heaviest I've ever been too much fat and water though.

I hear you. Going for a three mile run. I feel like I'm so big that I feel like a chubby power lifter running down the trail. To think in my twenties running sub 6 minute miles was never a problem. Now 15 year old girls run past me like I'm standing still. I know if I made a real running effort and stopped/slowed this lifting obsession I could improve rapidly on the cardio front. Bet after my first heart attack if I live I will regret spending so much time in the weight room.

I was a runner too 6'0 175-185 I was running the 400, 800, 1600 I had endurance for days I could out work everyone. Then I started packing on size fucking stupid I regret a lot of it. I played football needed more size and then it turned into an obsession.

Wish I never caught the size obsession.  Being lean is always better. Better for health and it looks better that a perma bulker. Maybe not in the steroid temporary physique world. I'm a muscular 187lbs at 5'8" natural. I would look so much better and be in better cardio at 170-175lbs. Every time I watch MMA the guys my height are around 155lbs with a few weighing 170lbs.

Yes it's excellent. Even if you can run just one mile under 6 minutes it's impressive. Especially in your 30-40s.

All that long distance running will age the body and elevate cortisol levels. Take a look at the skinny fat bodies the next time you walk into a spin class and you will know what I mean. These people usually look 10 years older than they are. Men were designed to chase after wild animals for food and to lift things. Doing wind sprints up a hill would offer a lot more health benefits and take less time.

Light cardio has its place...but you  want to do cardio 20-30 minutes keeping your heart rate between 120-130 bpm this will actually cause positive adaptations in the heart by causing the left ventricle to actually get thicker which means more blood pumped. HIT makes the heart thicker but does not offer the same benefit because the heart is just concerned with pumping as much blood as possible.

HIT makes the heart thicker but does not offer the same benefit because the heart is just concerned with pumping as much blood as possible.

These are my thoughts on cardio and why I try to give it equal billing to strength training. I don't always succeed.

Having cardio endurance is important. Anyone that has boxed or did a grappling sport will testify that having gas in the tank is important. Having a big motor but a tiny gas tank doesn't work.  Cardio is important for combat.

I agree though if you are doing a lot of miles then your body will reflect that. It will be skinny. Your body will adapt to survive that stress.  The knock about seeing skinny fat people as proof that cardio is no good for a body doesn't hold any weight because the same can be said about lifting using that logic. Go to any gym and there are complete messes lifting weights.

Cardio decreases your resting heart rate showing a stronger and more efficient heart muscle. It increases red blood cells needed to transport oxygen. It lowers blood pressure in many. Cardio increases HDL's. Decreases blood fats as decreased triglycerides. Lowers both visceral and subcutaneous fat. Lowers blood sugars. Making the liver less fatty change the metabolic problems that can lead to high cholesterol. It helps keeps cardio arteries flexible. Lowers blood viscosity. No, it's not a cure all. Many have died running but it has prevented more fatalities by far than it has caused.

The heart is the most important muscle. If it was outside of the body bodybuilders would be running 100 miles a day trying to make it look good. Since it's hidden many bodybuilders walk on treadmills slower than they walked from the car to the gym door.

Manipulate carbs.

A little more cardio. Three or four sessions of 30 minutes a week.

Getting ready to get my swimming pool going. I tend to swim for an hour, but I'll do some laps, stop. Then I continue, etc. So I stay in the pool for at least an hour, but only forty minutes is actual exercise.

Weight training stays the same, but add in some more isolation (dumbbells, cables). I still keep the compounds, but I'll go lighter with a few more reps.

Try and hold peak look from early June to late September.

Maybe like marathon runners, but even they seem to look a hell of a lot healthier then most bodybuilders I see these days, if we are talking old school then thats different up to the 90's most bodybuilders looked healthy especially the 70's all those dudes looked great even on show day when they are supposed to look like death.

You must not watch much soccer, but there are exceptions in all humans in regards to aging. But most do look very healthy and athletic,  Gareth Bale has some great genes for muscularity and conditioning.
