1.  You're unwell, so don't judge yourself against your best ever shape - seriously - that way lies madness.  Instead...

2.  Start tomorrow - and then keep - making positive individual decisions about food at every opportunity - I don't need to explain this concept to anyone that's ever dieted for months on end - tiny steps brother, tiny steps... you KNOW what I'm talking about as you've been here many times before and succeeded - remember that  8)

Best wishes

Sorry about your mother mate it’s fully understandable how you feel.

put off the surgery myself for years due to fear of ending up with a permanent shit bag before having no choice about it anymore, was best thing I did in the end. Found out early on diet plays a massive part despite doctors that say otherwise, sometimes healthy food is bad and will wreck havoc, find out what foods work best for you that don’t aggravate symptoms and stick with them religiously it’s what worked for me till things got too bad.
Good luck mate hope you beat the twatfull illness

Get better soon brother. I had bleeding Diverticulosis back in November. Spent 6 days in the hospital. Was in CCU for 4 days had to get 2 IU's of blood. Got Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. Finally got the bleeding stopped. Not fun. Watch that diet. Stress doesn't help either.

Wes, you don't state what kind of colitis you have. Anyway, last month you posted on your birthday that you have lost a lot of size because of injuries, etc. You sounded very down. Two weeks later you report that you have colitis. This disease is related to stress, anxiety, depression, etc. That is why scans won't find the cause. Also, you need to make sure you get enough iron because you can lose plenty through the disease. Dehydration is also another problem. Colitis is a kind of ulcer in the colon or other parts of the digestive tract. As a former bodybuilder it won't be easy to let go of those hard earned muscles you used to have. Those days are now gone for most older guys. Maintaining a tranquil mind like Bob Hoffman recommended is easier said than done. Good luck.

I had 6 months of stomach agony. I had pain and the runs. Had upper, lower scopes and gall bladder scans. Had to fight my insurance company to pay for the expensive medicine that didn't work. Saw 4 different gastro doctors. Came to the conclusion they really can't figure out how to help anything. They are some of the most well paid doctors going because they are in bed with the scope diagnostics places. All of their patients get sent to be scoped. One doctor suggested the pain could all be in my head. As I sat there he could hear my stomach doing flips.

My wife actually cure me. I have always been slightly lactose intolerant. With age it went off the charts bad. The greek yogurts I was eating with an orange everyday would set my stomach off for 24 plus hours. I never connected the yogurts because it was a delayed reaction. We went on vacation and I didn't eat any milk products by chance. The stomach cleared up. My wife pointed out the lack of milk products. I went home and stopped milk for a week and it was like a miracle cure. Of course I'm not saying my fix is your fix.

Stomach pain and problems are the worst.

Thanks much Vince.  :)

I have been diagnosed with chronic depression and extreme anxiety disorder many years now..............these recent unfortunate maladies surely haven`t helped much in that department.

I`m cleaning up my diet and gonna` hit the gym soon for ate least cardio, and light legs and arms which I think I may be able to train.

My worst fear is having cancer of the colon which killed my mother at age 50.

All the best.  :)

Thanks Rich........actually the diet they put me on eliminated dairy products and I`m still in agony though the meds have helped thje pain and blah feeling to subside a bit so that I can at least eat again and hasve some semblance of an appetite.

For a few weeks no foods appealed to me almost as if I had an aversion to food of any kind no matter how appealing they would have normally been.

All my best to you Wes, I had colitis about 5 years ago. Didnt know what was going on, felt my insides churning with pain, I know what its like. For a while all I could hold down was like half a cup of oatmeal a day. Antibiotics helped a ton, be well very soon.

You and need to be having yearly colonoscopy mate, sadly the longer you live with colitis the higher the risk of developing colon cancer, doctor should organise a yearly colonoscopy with biopsy to check for pre cancerous cells so cancer can be avoided by removal of the colon, this is the exact thing that forced my surgery was the early discovery of these pre cancer cells through yearly test was only 28 at the time they took colon out and made a fake one with end of small bowel so can avoid a bag, “cures” the colitis also but still go to toilet more but are healthy and well again, unfortunately some doctors ignore this my first doc did.
You need the yearly test mate please don’t ignore this fact

I only mention it mate as a cautionary tale about the importance of the regular scope mate, no need to be sorry was actually the best thing that ever happened to me finally gave me a decent life.
I hope you can beat it and enjoy a long remission of symptoms, tried almost everything while fighting it so please don’t hesitate to message to ask anything mate
Good luck
