My wife is going to deliver our first baby in the next few days. We live in an area that has a high cost of living especially day care. I really don't want have to burden our families with baby sitting all the time I need to make some extra money. I work full time right now making decent money same with the wife.
I was thinking of driving for uber on the weekends. Anyone try this and make decent money? Any other suggestions part time work pays so shitty i need some good ideas.

Do babysitting.
People charge $12-$15/hr around me.
Sometimes it's not worth it for the wife (or husband) to work as child care is so expensive.

Thanks for the suggestion! It might actually make more sense for my wife to stay home. She makes quite a bit less then me. Although she has a master's degree so she has the potential to make great money.

You don't make enough to cover the cost of operating your car...

What?

A car probably costs around 50 cents a mile to operate including gas, insurance, wear and tear, etc.
So you'd have to figure that against what you make.
How much do uber drivers charge?
Real estate agents can make some good money but it is not easy to actually make money. You have to really work it and it takes a lot of time nights and weekends. The expenses can again kill any profit and there are substantial upfront costs including education classes.
Why not just get a part-time hourly job for $8-$10 an hour and work 10 to 20 extra hours a week? You check in and check out and no after work worries. Like a Home Depot job. Work an extra 40 hours a month and bring home $300.

Sorry, I should have worded that:

I've used Uber and Lyft. Lyft drivers seem more satisfied. Depending on the market and your vehicle, it can be less than .50/mile wear 'n tear, plus you're totally on your own schedule.

Uber or that meal delivery service where you can deliver fast food through an APP

Whatever you do, don't let a side job interfere with your main job.
If your main job has advancement opportunities you may be better in the long run to do as well as you can so you can get ahead.
You can also look around for a better job. Employment is becoming tight and it is a good time to look around for a higher paying employer elsewhere.

Bartending is an option if you know how. If not you could take bartending training.
Just don't become an alcoholic yourself.

Spiro: You mean you're thinking of driving Uber or Lyft in the Charger?
??
Princess L is right about markets. Everything (your success or failure) will rely on that when it comes to that type of driving.

I used Lyft yesterday. The driver told me he clears on the books on average $130 for every 4 hour segment he drives. That's before cash tips or for riders like me that will contact him in the future off the books (he's already been vetted by Lyft, so I'm comfortable with that driver). Easy money on his own schedule. Again, it all depends on the market area. High density tourist areas are a gold mine.

Be sure to get paid upfront. ;)

Don’t listen to princess L and don’t do lyft or Uber. Major ripoff that only makes money for the CEO’s of those companies.
Princess mentions 130 usd but that is gross. You have ALL expenses of running the business (it’s your own business, you don’t work for Uber) then taxes.
It can certainly vary but most drivers are lucky to clear minimum wage. You are better off getting a part time job even making shit money it’s better than Uber.

To make that, it isn't really high density, it is long distance, for example, airport to a suburb. Short trips are not that lucrative
