Vince, Doug Steele, Adonis et al, where is the best place in NC fir nature? Looking to buy a place, not sure if I want to go Ashville/Charlotte/Hickory area, or is there a place in the RDU that you can get big acreage off the grid. Looking for 30 acres minimum with a spring and possibly stream or river frontage on the cheap. Thanks.

why the fuck would u move to a small town.

Anywhere well away from any dindu’s or musli’s
Is a good start.

Not to move, just for off the grid purposes for weekends etc. Vance county is cheap but trashy. I like Granville area too, but may want to go further west to take advantage of the Blueridge springs and streams.

Been ro Asheville, real nice area but that is the city. They have huge areas by the national forests in Flat Rock, Bat Cave etc anywhere around there.

A little too hipster for me, although it is beautiful. I was thinking Boone area or maybe somewhere like MT Airy. I am somewhat familiar with the area and am just looking for somewhere to go camping on the weekends for now and maybe build a house later. Off the grid living on at least 20 acres should do the trick, but if I can go somewhere and get 50+ acres in the $2-3k per acre range, I may do that even if it means being way off he grid as long as it meets the other criteria. I am more familiar with Western NC and OBX area, and wasn't sure what it would be like in the RDU/Winston-Salem areas.

Asheville is a, expensive liberal shithole nowadays but still has a lot to do however I would recommend moving just outside the city limits like Leicester, Skyland, or Hendersonville. If I had to pick, I would choose Leicester as you'll find plenty of open fields and property to easily go off grid and still be 10-15 minutes away from Asheville if you want to head downtown. Park at the garage near the BB&T building if you don't want your vehicle fucked up as they have security guards.
Charlotte is the same way somewhat but its much larger, busier, and more dangerous. Move outside the city limits or you'll get robbed as being white makes you an immediate target and your British accent will result in a free serving of poundcake
Stay away from Hickory unless you like watching dirt races and a shitty Triple A baseball team. There is nothing there.

I visited Asheville last summer while trying to find property to purchase in the Carolinas and if remnants of the old confederates is your thing, then up by those mountains you'll find many of the south's unashamed locals that defend their firm belief in slavery and wave their confederate flags high both during the day and night. Their despise of the American negro or anyone that doesn't fit their mold is alive and well.

Not really my thing dude, as I do not believe I have ever seen anyone flying one that I thought "affluent" or someone I would like to emulate. I was more pointing out that he thought I was British and would somehow get beat up for having an accent, when I would say if I had an accent, it would more conform to one of the Southern States. Hope you had a good time in Ashville, a I did enjoy your NY recommendations some years back.
PS, glad to see you back posting again (no homo)
