Here are some notable people involved in the creation of the internet.

Leonard Kleinrock

On a historical day in early September, 1969, a team at Kleinrock's NMC connected one of their SDS Sigma 7 computers to an Interface Message Processor, thereby becoming the first node on the ARPANET, and the first computer ever on the Internet.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee inventor of the World Wide Web.

I just had to take the hypertext idea and connect it to the Transmission Control Protocol and domain name system ideas and—ta-da!—the World Wide Web... Creating the web was really an act of desperation, because the situation without it was very difficult when I was working at CERN later. Most of the technology involved in the web, like the hypertext, like the internet, multifont text objects, had all been designed already. I just had to put them together. It was a step of generalising, going to a higher level of abstraction, thinking about all the documentation systems out there as being possibly part of a larger imaginary documentation system.

Looks like The Creator from the Matrix.

He's not really a household name for non technical types, but what he invented is critical for the internet.  He even created the distributed nature of the internet, IE no router is a central authority, they all work together.  TCP/IP is what creates one network that all the other network can communicate with using a common language.

Yes, he always dresses like that.  Probably the best dressed engineer there is.  No pocket protector for him.

Raymond Tomlinson invented email on his own time.  It immediately became the largest flow of traffic on Arpanet.
