Just watched an interesting documentary lifestyle film about bodybuilders, including a wrestler and a trainer. It's neither gay porn nor is it "Pumping Iron". It is an introspective look at part of the routine lives of these Canadian bodybuilders.
The approximately 90 minute movie is mostly a foreign language film with subtitles, which doesn't mean much since there is very little dialog. Think actions speak louder than words. However, it is not an 'action' film per se.
Film Review: ‘A Skin So Soft’
Smooth, bulging, oiled, tatted, exposed: Denis Côté’s humane fascination with six bodybuilders tosses aside grandstanding and focuses on the odd duality of man and muscle.

Côté doesn’t emphasize this dichotomy (or is it a paradox?); true to his admirably eclectic approach, the maverick director weaves together portraits of six bodybuilders that push to the margins personal details and grand statements about the sport. More like a true portrait painter, he focuses on the surface of things knowing that, when images are well chosen and the presentation is right, skin can offer a wealth of details. Ever the cinema theorist, he uses the medium in a demonstrably visual rather than didactic way, and while similar to his earlier docu-fictions (“Carcasses,” “Bestiaire”), “Skin” is a more openly accepting film, in which curiosity takes the place of polemic.

I think I just caught AIDS from reading the actual review:
At the end, the group all come together for an overnight in the countryside, clearly organized for the purposes of the film as a sort of thank-you gift to his subjects for allowing him to insert himself into their spaces.

For you guys outside the USA:
I recently stumbled across two movies; first one from France and the second one from Japan. Unfortunately their DVD formats are not US compatible. But I sure as heck would like to see them both!

Bulging, oiled, and exposed? Are you sure this isn't a film for gays?
Bulging muscles, oiled up for competition, bodybuilding culture, good and bad, exposed; is what it is about, but that's not what's implied in the review. I'm pretty sure the writer intended to interest gay folks into watching the film. None of the cast acted gay at all. There's not even much camaraderie. It's seems likely that most if not all of these fellows did not know each other before the filming commenced. There's no sex gay or straight. Just a bunch of guys into bodybuilding doing what bodybuilders do. (with the exception of anabolic steroids). If you find something gay about the film, I must have missed it completely. It's probably a G rated film. One which many dedicated bodybuilders and a handful of GB folks can relate to.
"Jean-François, Ronald, Alexis, Cédric, Benoit, and Maxim are gladiators of modern times. From the strongman to the top-class bodybuilder, to the veteran who has become a trainer, they all share the same definition and obsession: overcoming the limitations of their bodies. They are waiting for the next competition, slaving away in the gym, and following extreme diets. A Skin So Soft is a free exploration of the regimented daily lives of these misunderstood monsters."

Which means what in regards to this film. Chances are, you've never lifted a weight in your life; never thought to follow a diet regime; and most importantly, you have an obsession with homosexuality. This film is definitely not for you.

...doing what bodybuilders do. (with the exception of anabolic steroids)...
So it's a fantasy then.
Cool.

Btw, what’s an “obsession homosexuality?” Is that a new kind of nomenclature for angry old poofters who can’t do grammar correctly?

Smooth, bulging, oiled, tatted, exposed: Focus on six bodybuilders tossing salads aside on grandpapa Prime and focuses on the odd duality of man and muscle.

My mind works faster than my fingers. Being a retired old poofter has nothing to do with it. But thanks for calling me out on this so I could fix it. ::)

The dude in the photo kind of looks like me...no hair, white teeth, big ears and wears glasses. He's clearly thinner than I am, though. Heart attack? Not likely. Doc says I have the ticker of a fit 30 year old.

Here's thing thing folks. This thread is about a movie I thought some of you might find interesting. Watch it or don't. I really don't give a fuck.
