Food that has gone bad is usually a no go.
Have you considered donating your old clothes and footwear, assuming they are in good working condition?

With this in mind, it's important to live below your means.
If you are homeless, find a less popular bridge to live under and eat week old food instead of a day or two old.
Collect extra bottles and cans for a rainy day.
Move to a warm climate to be more comfortable and you will need less clothing.

Volunteered at a food pantry for a while. They give out expired canned food within limits with some exceptions (can’t remember the exact exceptions, maybe dairy in shorter period and over 6 months for all else). Ask the place you want to donate to, they will know). Grocery stores turn over to pantries on exact expiration, but the pantries distribute longer.

I sometimes offer protein powder and creatine to the homeless. They look at me like I have 2 heads.
