I like the story he told in Golds that Viator and Mentzer were trying to deadlift 500lbs after training back and failed. He said he went up to the weight weighing about 190lbs and did reps with it.

I think it was actually 585 lbs.  Viator and Mentzer couldn't move it but Samir did reps with it.

Underrated physique all together. I think he was better than Haney.

Too bad for his injuries. One of the best ever.

Yup. And apparently one of the more humble ones as well, he's letting a rookie wear his number now.

Way to stir the pot Earl.

No one had his sustained success. TD was better than any of the other backs that came after him.  When healthy he was every bit the talent that Clinton Portis was.

If he was only a system back why didn't everyone run that system? It's to easy.

Who was a shadow of his former self.

i'm not stirring a pot i'm setting you guys straight, as usual :P

elway was still making the pro bowl and he was super bowl mvp before he retired, why did the team stink as soon as he retired?

as for the system, shanahan traded clinton portis who was making the pro bowl every year because he knew he could plug in anybody and not miss a beat

davis was good but he is nowhere near an all time back

Elway was great and probably had another good in him. Bubby Brister was the reason the team sucked with out him. Same reason a broken down Manning won a superbowl Paxon Lynch Trevor Siemian couldn't win games with a great D and recievers.

Other backs were plugged in but they were far from being long term replacements.

1000% agree with you. Been saying that for years. 83 Samir is possibly the greatest O winner ever.

Maybe you remember the Lou Ferrigno interview (done shortly after Samir's Olympia win) where he said that Bannout's win was a fluke and wouldn't happen again.  Why did he think that?  Was it maybe because of Samir's inability to peak consistently?  Or was it some other reason?

Samir in '83 was awesome. Too bad that he was never able to duplicate that condition again.

Likely jealousy
Also Samir won the Mr O - Lou didn’t.

Though Samir did have consistency issues with his conditioning.

Saw Samir in a Palumbo group interview after the Olympia. Seems like a cool dude. No ego.

Agreed.  He had a great back.  This picture is the best his back ever looked.  He never duplicated this form.

Hopefully he didnt mean Ray Mentzer.

Jay Mentzer is the one on the left.
