RIP.  Loved watching some of his feuds in the 80's.  Read his Wikipedia page and some of the crazy shit that went on in his life.  Those old school wrestlers were bad asses.

Many of their problems started because they hung out in bars all the time. And often were alcohol addicts. Not bad ass imo, just stupid and tragic

Yeah, plus just being a wrestler probably attracted local tough guys at those bars to make a name for themselves by fighting a famous wrestler.

I believe it was promoter Bill Watts who would fire a wrestler if he lost a bar fight.

I've always believed the military's hand to hand combat training was actually for bar fights as combat troops will almost never see themselves in a hand fighting situation with the enemy.  The SEALS, Delta Force, Rangers, infantry Marines and the like can't afford to have their tough guys getting beat up by locals in a bar or they loose some mystique.  I guess Bill Watts felt the same about his wrestlers.

I would say you are correct that Vince is a good guy, but to be honest Basile is just plain bitter and that by choice.
